Tell us more please: By defintion if your pain has been going on for 2 years, it's is chronic. Tail bone pain known as coccydynia can have a lot of causes, so more info would help. Typically workup will involve seeing a spine specialist for possible imaging. Treatment would include finding a suitable cushion, possible lumbar support for chairs or your car. Sitting on a firm chair or any pressure will hurt. Sitting on a rolled up newspaper so there is no pressure on the coccyx will decrease the pain. Less pain at all when standing.

Move around: Our tail bone has minimal padding over it (no muscle and little fat) and activities like sitting can cause pressure on the skin and bone, giving you pain. Most likely injury: You may have broken your coccyx or strained the area around it. Physical exam could help locate the problem. If it is muscle, stretches and physical therapy help. An xray could help clarify the damage. Since there is no cast for it, applying heat to the joint and ice to the muscles may help. Aleve (naproxen) is also good.
