You : You should not give your child a prescription medication that is not theirs without consulting your child's doctor for a few reasons: - your 18 month old may not have an illness that can be adequately treated by amoxicillin - your 6 year old should take the entire Amoxicillin prescription for their infection unless the doctor told you to stop it. - Amoxicillin liquid expires after 10 days. - medication doses are weight based and it is not safe to give an 18 month old a 6 year old's dose. - if your 18 month old is sick, giving a few doses of antibiotic may not make them better, but can make any testing for illness such as strep testing unreliable.
