What are common side effects of coming off of cymbalta (duloxetine)? I took 30mg for ~2.5 months. Psych said to merely cease taking it. Shouldnt i be weaned off?

Flu like symptoms: 30 mg is not a big dose to get off of but a lot of factors effect the discontinuation symptoms. 1 is how long you are on it. 2.5 months is long enough to have symptoms. Why you were on it, are you switching to something else and what. You will know in a few days of stopping it how you will do.Some of the symptoms can be a flu like syndrome, feelings of electric shock, anxiety and mood changes. ...Read more

My BP was 240/128. Now its 102/59. Dr said break one of my meds in half. Bystolic (nebivolol) 5mg lisinopril 5mg. Before, 2.5 bys did not lower bp. Not sure wich-?

Do what he says: Something has changed and your BP is getting too low. Bystolic (nebivolol) 5 mg and lisinoprol 5 mg wouldn't generally lower BP from 240 to 102. People go through periods of high and low BP and you've passed through a high one. Th e bystolic (nebivolol) would be the more potent med in most people. Try breaking it in half or just stopping the Lisinopril and taking just bystolic (nebivolol). Keep checking your BP & adjust as needed. ...Read more

Severe anxiety from type 1 diabetes diag. Put on Xanax (alprazolam) 2x/day (.5mg) while celexa (5mg start) builds up in my system. Safe to keep taking Xanax (alprazolam) 2?

Be careful: Xanax (alprazolam) or any valium like dru(any Valium like drug) has a high potential for addiction problems. Not only their track record for relieving anxiety is iffy. And can actually worsen and anxiety as withdrawal can happen readily due to their very short half-life. Celexa is way too low at 5 mg per day. Middle range dosages are 15 to 20 mg per day with a maximum of 30 mg/day-even in diabetes. Take care ...Read more

Been on pristiq (desvenlafaxine) 50mg for 1 month, quit cold turkey, been getting brain zaps & nauseated- should I slowly wean myself off or stick this out cold turkey?

Better to wean: off of Pristiq than to stop cold turkey. Because you are asking this- it makes me wonder if you are doing this under the prescribing medical provider's supervision. Please don't change your meds without discussing with your doctor/ psychiatrist. ...Read more

april inpatient doc went from a new zoloft (sertraline) script 50mg to 200mg in 4 days resulted in serotonin syndrome9/10sympts off meds. What is longterm damage?

Most likely none: Serotonin syndrome is usually caused by a combo of drugs that increase serotonin by different mechanisms. Some people may experience it w/ a rapid escalation of one med. Signs include hyperactive reflexes, tremors, sweating. More severe signs & symptoms include fever, anxiety, agitation & muscle rigidity. Most people recover completely if there is no major muscle injury or kidney damage. ...Read more

On crestor (rosuvastatin) for long time, then moved and no one gave it. Started up again and given 5 mg instead of 2.5. 90, mild high bp, some renal damage?

On crestor (rosuvastatin) for long time, then moved and no one gave it. Started up again and given 5 mg instead of 2.5. 90, mild high bp, some renal damage?

Why crestor (rosuvastatin) at 90?: If I am reading it right, you are 90? You feel well? Some low functioning of kidneys =common at 90. I don't think Crestor (rosuvastatin) is offering you any real benefit...It is being used to treat high cholesterol but is that really a concern now? Quality of life should be the focus at this point! i would live on and heck with crestor (rosuvastatin)... Good luck. ...Read more

I have a CK level of 359. i previously had open heart surgery two years ago. i am currently taking lipitor (atorvastatin) along with various other medications. ?

Not to worry: 359 in most labs is an insignificant elevation. It's possibly related to Lipitor (atorvastatin) use (not a reason to stop it), but just simple muscular exercise can cause it too. Unless you're having crescendo angina, it's not related to your heart. ...Read more
