Specifically, lipases degrade tg rich lipoproteins including chylomicrons, very low density lipoprotein (vldl) and remnant particles produced by breakdown of chylomicron and vldl particles. Can having vitamin B12 deficiency cause OCD symptoms?

Iron serum high (180) yet ferritin levels low (113). Suffering symptoms akin to haemochromatosis. Can treatment (phlebotomy) be justified?

Iron serum high (180) yet ferritin levels low (113). Suffering symptoms akin to haemochromatosis. Can treatment (phlebotomy) be justified?

Not necessarily: Serum iron levels are not a good test to make treatment decisions as it is very variable and do not reflect inappropriate iron deposition. Ferritin level is the standard. If there is a concern for hemachromatosis genetic test is available. If indicated, liver biopsy with iron studies can be considered. ...Read more

1 doctor agreed:
Can pernicious anemia or severe vitamin B12 deficiency cause chronic non-specific duodenitis??

Not clear: No clear evidence for the causal-effect relationship between the two. PA is an autoimmue-mediated destruction of parietal cells in stomach, resuling in impairmnent of B12 absorption. Certainly it is possible that pernicious anemia may co-exist or exacerbate duodenitis via immune process or loss of balance in duodenal fluid, or anemia. But the causal-effect relationship is not well established. ...Read more

Why does vitamin B12 deficiency cause neurological symptoms?

Why does vitamin B12 deficiency cause neurological symptoms?

Required by nerves: This co-factor is needed by the nerves to stay healthy. Each nerve cell has a self repair system that relies on a variety of nutrients in our diet to provide the needed material to keep the walls intact and the cell working. Lack of B12 eventually causes that repair system to start breaking down and nerve cells malfunction or degenerate, leading to neurologic symptoms. ...Read more
