How many days does it take to heal the wounds on lower lip&inner tissues which was cut during accident&stitches are also done by emergency Dr.
I have a couple small cuts on my inner lip where I used to have stitches at last year. It's pretty tough to eat. It's been 4 days. Should I let it be?
Bleeding?: If you are bleeding, try placing a slightly moist tea bag (black tea or orange pekoe tea, not green, herbal tea) onto the cuts and hold with moderate pressure for 20 minutes. This should significantly reduce the bleeding, if not successful seek dental/ medical help. Soft or liquid diet for a few days. ...Read more

Lower two wisdom teeth extracted exactly a week today. When will stitches dissolve and why do I have really bad breath and bad taste in mouth.

Re bad breath are you rinsing vigorously 3x/day? It is common to get food trapped as the sockets heal you may need a curved syringe to remove the debris with water so see your surgeon for this. ...Read more
I got a wisdom tooth out yesterday. I got stitches in my left lower jaw. This a.M it looks like a tennis ball. The dentist is closed today. I can open mouth a little. Should I just take the codeine?
I agree with the: Other doctors comments. I would add though that the peak of swelling is usually 72 hours post surgery, so your "tennis ball" may even get larger. Once swelling presents, it is difficult to modify this. Ice for the first 48 hours & then on third day moist heat application to help reduce swelling. A tennis ball size swelling is a bit excessive though. Motrin 800mg, & narcotic for pain - & time. ...Read more
Maybe, maybe not: Generally, if the cut is limited to the red of the lips, it is ususlly left open to self heal. Bacteriostatic factors in saliva keep it from festering. If the cut crosses over into the junction between facial skin and the red, stitches may be needed to line up the edges and prevent healing in a jaged line. ...Read more

Busted my lip open and the hospital has said it needs stitches but I can't handle needles so I've refused them. What could happen?
Unsightly scar: The key is whether the split crosses the vermillion border (where the red part attaches to the skin). If it heals, which it will, poorly, you will be unhappy with the appearance. Unless it is bleeding, the result will be more cosmetic. However, if it is serious enough to need stitches, they can use numbing cream before the needle stick to make it less painful. ...Read more
RICE Therapy: RICE is an acronym for treatments used to reduce swelling after an injury. RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compresion and Elevation. While it is not practical to compress your lip, the other three still apply. Time is also on your side, as the swelling should be peaking, and will begin to subside as your healing progresses. If the swelling/pain continues to increase, get in touch with your physician. ...Read more
Yes...Carefully: Oragel is a numbing cream. That's all. If you have a lip wound with stitches, it's rare that it would be painful for more than a day or so. However, if you need to, you can carefully apply a small dab with a clean Q-tip, and it should be safe. Don't apply too much pressure, and don't disturb the stitches. If the wound is still bleeding or oozing, then don't apply anything...wait for healing. ...Read more
