Linzess Is For Long Term Use
Is amitiza (lubiprostone) or linzess safer for long term use for ibs? 18 year old male with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
Ok: Neither are contraindicated for WPW but Amitiza (lubiprostone) has no black box warnings and Linzess does - since clinical experience with both is limited, i'd go with the former. ...Read more

Constipation: You don't say why you're using the narcotic or how much time or how much. Constipation is a serious problem over a long time. Using laxatives or any thing of the sort can can lead to dependence on those medications. You end up in later years being very miserable. Of course if you're legitimately taking opiates constipation is a side effect. Minimize the problem. ...Read more

Measure in terms of WEEKS not DAYS since you should be following a dietary intake consistent with your IBS type! Consult with your Gastroenterologist about what you should be eating. One thing I can advise...DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS!!!!!!!!!! and start NOW!

Protonix (pantoprazole): Protonix (pantoprazole) starts to work fairly quickly - although takes 2-3 days to reach maximal effect (ie, you should have noticed some improvement by now). Remember to take any PPI at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating - as food decreases absorption by up to 70%. Linzess should help with any constipation. Hope that helps! ...Read more

Why did the medication "Linzess" kill juvenile mice in the clinical studies? Should this be a concerning result?
Let's think: Mouse studies are animal studies, not clinical studies. It is no surprise that an anti-constipation drug in a huge dose caused fatal diarrhea. Two new Big Pharma meds are competing for the chronic constipation market and it's no wonder there's distortion in what you read. For constipation, check for hypothyroidism, porphyria, and practice good hydration and diet first. Best wishes. ...Read more

Great drug choice: Linzess is a non-systemic agent that works within 1 week to improve both the frequency and completeness of emptying, and within 6-8 weeks to reduce the sense of abdominal discomfort that often accompanies constipation. If you've taken one pill before your first meal daily without benefit, consider either a dose adjustment or proceed with further evaluation. ...Read more

Probably fine: Linzess (linaclotide) is usually taken on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes before breakfast. If taken soon after a high-fat meal, it can cause diarrhea or more frequent movements.
