Rash dx and rx: You had a rash. What was the cause and the appropriate treatment? Eczema is usually treated with moisturizers and topical steroids. The rash can be infected with surface bacteria (usually S. Aureus) and is red with topical antibiotic. If you have inflamed hair follicles you have folliculitis. Scabies can be rxed with Ivermectin though it is usually given orally. ...Read more
Diflucan-toe candida 2.5wks.Nail avulsion. Looked healthy til mon;now 2 new small abscesses.Md said other choice was terbinafine. Is diflucan (fluconazole) working?
Disagree: The abscesses are from bacterial infection, Diflucan (fluconazole) and terbinafine are both antifungal meds. After nail avulsion procedures, recommend soaking at this time. If continues to get worse, see a podiatrist (specialist), you may need antibiotics and not antifungal meds. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
The organism: Is not the only consideration. You did not mention if it was skin on toe or the nail. Nials are difficult to treat due to the fact the organisms are ususally under the nail. The thickness of the nail is also a concern. Is the tolnaftate a cream? A soultion? As you want it to be able to get under the nail as well. Try and keep the nail short and soft. Try the tolnaftate ... ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What really makes ringworm go away? I've tried everything, clotrimazole, tolnaftate, miconazole nitrate creams & terbinafine HCl pills & its still here
Lamisil/Hydrocortiso: Use Lamisil (terbinafine) and apply to infected and normal skin 2 cm beyond affected area each day for a period of one month. The first week pair this with Hydrocortisone 1% daily. If this fails to resolve the problem then best to be seen to consider other causes. You may need an oral antifungal if the topical regimen fails and the lesion is determined to truly be ringworm. Hope this helps. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
19 mo old w/ yeast infection for 2 wks. Tried nystatin, monistat, clotrimazole, zinc oxide, triple paste, maloxx, & no diaper. Not working, its worse.
"diaper rash": A number of conditions cause so called "diaper rash." i wonder about the duration of treatment rendered since 6 different creams, independently or in combination, have been used in 2 weeks period. If no response to Nystatin was observed in a week, the child is unlikely to have yeast infection unless immunocompromised. Seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and zinc deficiency are other possibilities. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Took keflex 4 uti. It gave me a yeast infection that made my vagina swell. I took overthecounter azoles. Xtreme itching and bumps r still here. Help?
See answer: Agree that a fungal yeast infection (candidiasis) would be most common type of vaginitis after antibiotic therapy. The fact that your symptoms have not cleared though warrants an exam to verify the diagnosis and rule out other possibilities. It is also possible that you have an -azole resistant or atypical fungus and culture could identify. A trial of oral Fluconazole might be considered anyway. ...Read more
