Difficult to say for: sure without an exam. It could be toxic synovitis which is caused by a virus, but also could be a bacterial infection or other serious issue. Be seen: I would definitely think it would be wise to followup and be thoroughly evaluated for the cause of your current symptoms. I would not be worried so much as just would want to know the specific reason for your symptoms and whether or not something else should be done. ...Read more

Varies : It varies somewhat, based upon the specific cause. It might be reasonable to ice it down and rest it, if it does resolved over 3-5 days it probably was a minor injury. If it does not get better, or worsens at any point, I would not hesitate to be seen for it. ...Read more

Exam + bloodwork: There are so many possible causes for limp in a child. This depends on how long, the kind of limping and what else is going on (fever, pain, rash, history of trauma/ sports). It would be good idea for you to bring him in and discuss with his pediatrician and have him evaluated with a good exam and bloodwork - possibly testing blood count, infection, lyme disease, and rheumatologic markers. ...Read more

Could I have torn something? I have slaughter's disease in my knees and have had a constant pain in one knee for a little over a week. I can't walk without a limp and when one knee pops i sometimes either stumble or even fall. What could I have done?

It's : It's possible you may have torn a something. Was there any traumatic injury to your knee before the pain started? If you have joint line pain or a catch/locking sensation in your knee you may have a torn meniscus. The if the pain does not go away the next step may be to get an MRI of your knee. ...Read more

Get Checked!: Leg edema can be a sign of Deep Venous Thrombosis. Without a thorough examination it is difficult to say about your condition. I suggest you see your Physician and ask specifically about "Blood Clots"! If you have any shortness of breath go immediately to the ER. ...Read more
