If all of your poops are thin and stringy, you need to get checked. If you had only one poop that seemed to have something like a brown string but you are fine now, it is most likely something you ate.

Does she take iron supplementation? Iron or bismuth from pepto-bismol can cause dark brown/ black stool. Stool that floats/ oily may be due to pancreatic insufficiency as in cystic fibrosis. If she is having pain, crying then it is more concern. F/u w/doc

You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.
