Hi should I worry if for the past couple of days my stool has been half brown half very dark brown very similar to black?

I don't think you: Need to worry, but I would continue to watch it. Very likely the dark brown digested products of something you ate or took (especially iron) were processed and collected up against your usual color stool. I predict in another day or two it will normalize. The most worrisome thing is if the black stool represents old blood is present. If it persists, see Doc; consider stool test for blood. ...Read more

Stool is darker in one area. Stool was normal sized and also normal in color. Mostly brown but at the end seemed way darker?

All brown colors: Of stool are normal. Abnormally light stools ("clay-colored") may be due to reduced bile associated with liver disease. All dark brown stools are normal UNLESS they are BLACK which suggests upper GI bleeding. Sometimes more or less hydration in one part of the stool may affect its brown color. I wouldn't worry about this any further. Stay well:) ...Read more

Since last week I have 3 times stool in a day stools are normal brown. After one stool I have urge to stool again is it normal?

At least in America: As addressed on HealthTap before, normal stool pattern in America is actually a range. Most people will defecate from once every third to fourth day to three times a day. The timing of stooling depends on intake, transit, more. Changes in stool caliber & texture, evidence of maldigestion/ malabsorption, blood, & sometimes altered color all signal cause for concern that warrants medical evaluation. ...Read more

My stool was half black and half brown and it had a lot of stringy substance all over it & also smelled bad is everything okay with me?

Maybe & maybe not: Dark-colored stools may result from iron supplements, foods you eat (like a lot of spinach), substances (like peptobismol), but most significantly suggests bleeding. When blood is denatured by acid in your stomach, as from ulcers, stools will turn tarry ("melena"). Blood may also be ingested from nose bleeds, bleeding gums... Persistent melena (without obvious cause) & symptoms warrants evaluation ...Read more

I noticed today that my stool was a bit darker brown than usual. Definitely not black, just darker brown than it usually is. What caused this?

Most likely normal: Our stools can vary in color depending on what we eat. Some foods such as beets clearly do this, while the amount of fiber and protein can shift the color slightly. If you pass soft, well formed stools on a regular basis, don't feel pain with passing one, don't see any blood or black tar-like substance in or on it, then you most likely are fine. ...Read more
