Why every time I did weight training, my chest feel ached. It feels like a little pinch for a few sec, then disappears. Norml hr but I felt a lil sob?

Hard to say: There are a number if possibilities and you should probably be checked. You may even need a stress test to make sure that moderate stress is not inducing some form of cardiac arrhythmia. A detailed exam and appropriate studies can usually determine the cause. Get checked out. ...Read more

I was lifting weights and my wrist poped and I had pain for a few minutes. Now every time I move my wrist it clicks and I feel a build up of pressure.

Time to visit w/ Doc: You have likely injured a tendon or possibly one of the fascial sheaths that holds the pulleys on the fingers in place. You may also have damaged tendons that are in the "carpal tunnel"or fascia of the wrist. An orthopedist with a subspecialty interest in the arms, hands is the best person to assess this. If you develop weakness or alteration in sensation that's potentially serious. C MD ASAP ...Read more

Is it good to workout twice a day....one time cardio and other time weight training with a gap of 8-12 hours???

Is it good to workout twice a day....one time cardio and other time weight training with a gap of 8-12 hours???

Not in my estimation: U should do on alternate days. Ur muscles need time 2 recover from a weight lifting program. Pushing it 2X/day does not give the same results as alternating days. ...Read more

I strength train 5 times a week (lifting weights) is 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight a day too much?

I strength train 5 times a week (lifting weights) is 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight a day too much?

No.: I think in terms of kgs (2.2 lbs), but 2 grams per kg of weight is ideal. 1 gram per pound is very slightly over and is not an issue. So you are taking an optimal amount, after which there is no additional benefit! ...Read more

My CPK tested 1885, 24hrs after lifting weights. 7 days later, w/o exercise, tested 3800. On 5mg/day of crestor (rosuvastatin) for 2+ years. Never high before. Why?

Check for myositis?: Doubtful that there would be sudden increase in CPK from consistent dose of statin. May result when dose changed, or other medications that affect metabolism of statin change. If this is not the case, then look for primary muscle problem: myositis comes to mind first. Also profound hypothyroidism and others. ...Read more

Hi Doc, what's the ideal no. Of days I should rest per week? I do cardio & weight training (altrnately) and rest only a day.

Your choice: Working out 6 days a week for someone in their twenties is ideal. A day off to rest and re- energize is a good way to keep your body (and mind) fresh. Everyone is differrent and should personalize their workouts to suit their goals and health. A personal trainer can help w/ setting goals for the new year and keeping your workouts from getting boring. Best of Luck! ...Read more

Can I workout lifting weights and doing cardio while on blood thinners? I'm on levonex 100mg injections once a day in my abdomen.

Can you let me know how many carbs per day for weight training to lose belly fat?

Carbs: To be truly ketogenic, that requires less than 50-60g of carbs per day and less than 1.2-1.5 g/kg/day of protein. Nutritional ketosis will decrease carbohydrate metabolism and start mobilization of your fat stores. ...Read more

Which raises liver enzymes more, lifting weights strenuously, or drinking 2 alcoholic drinks per day? Thank you

Alcohol: Lifting weights may raise creatine kinase, not a liver enzyme. Alcohol at the amount you describe would not raise liver enzymes too much, in a male. There is likely to be small increase in alt and ggt. ...Read more

Does caffeine (100-120 milligrams) inhibits protein synthesis completely? I only have one strong coffee a day, morning or before lifting weights.

Brown discharge week after period. No sex except on day one of a 6 day period. On bcp. What would cause this? Started weight training?

Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working. ...Read more

I have recently been diagnosed with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, I take 120mg verapamil per day. How safe is it for me to continue weight training?

I have recently been diagnosed with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, I take 120mg verapamil per day. How safe is it for me to continue weight training?

PAF: There is mounting data showing that athletes who generate a lot of upper body strain (ie rowers, weight lifters) have an increased incidence of a fib, felt to be due to back pressure on the heart during straining that ultimately stretches out the top chambers which is where atrial fibrillation comes from. As you continue weight lifting, be aware that your paroxysmal afib may become persistent. ...Read more

Lifting weights after 60?

Lifting weights after 60?

Are you asking: If you can and should lift weights after 60? If so, both yes and yes. Resistance training can help stave off bone density loss and muscle mass loss.
