Doctor insights on:
Lidocaine And Epinephrine Injection
Lidocaine possession: Lidocaine is a medication that only a physician can prescribe. It is my understanding that possessing it without an appropriate prescription from a medical doctor is in violation of most state statutes. You should check with your local law enforcement officials.
NO: Epi 1:1000 is too strong to self inject.
Overdose: Yes, if you exceed the lethal dose of Lidocaine and epinephrine.
Hello Dr Druz, on February 24, I had a dental visit. The dentist injected 4 needles if lidocaine and epinephrine. Withing 1 minute I started experiencing tremors, hot flashes, cold hands and feet, fatigue. 911 was called, I was then taken to the hospital
Be careful: You most probably had a reaction to the epinephrine or it was injected into a blood vessel. In any event make sure you tell anyone working on you and they want to give you an anesthetic injection tell them what happened and insist they use a different anesthetic besides lidocaine with epinephrine. There are plenty other choices
I've got lidocaine hci 2% and epinephrine 1:1000, 000 injection viles. What whould happen if I drank it?
Are you suicidal?: If you are having thoughts about killing yourself by ingesting vials of lidocaine/ epinephrine, get seen at the nearest emergency room now. Have a friend or relative drive you or call 911 for emergency services for transport. You can call the national suicide hotlines 24/7 at 1-800-suicide (1-800-784-2433) or 1-800-273 – talk (1-800-273-8255) for support.
What to do if I have lidocaine hci 2% and epinephrine 1:1000, 000 injection viles what whould happen if I drank it?
Bad idea: It begs the question as to WHY you would drink it!! A substantial amount of the Lidocaine and Epinephrine would be absorbed into your blood stream very fast through the mucosa of your mouth, throat and esophagus. Your heart would begin to beat rapidly/erratically, your blood pressure would rise, your mouth would get numb. If you drank ENOUGH lidocaine, you would have a seizure and possibly die.
Side effects: Potentially serious: feeling anxious, shaky, dizzy, restless, or depressed; drowsiness, vomiting, ringing in your ears, blurred vision; confusion, twitching, seizure (convulsions); fast heart rate, rapid breathing, feeling hot or cold; weak or shallow breathing, slow heart rate, weak pulse; or feeling like you might pass out. Less serious mild bruising, swelling numbness mild dizziness and nausea.See 1 more doctor answer
I'm allergic to lidocaine & epinephrine used for dental & dermatology procedures & need to know what local anesthesia is ok for sensitive persons.?
Can lidocaine be used without epinephrine? I have SVT & I need a tooth pulled. Epinephrine causes SVT to act up. Can I just have lidocaine used?
SVT and Lidocaine: Good question! Local anesthetics can be used without epinephrine (epi). The reasons epi is added to local anesthetics include, to increase their duration of action, decrease their absorption into the circulation and decrease bleeding. In dental procedures these are good things. SVT is a dangerous condition that can lead to a heart attack so avoiding stimulants such as epi is recommended.See 2 more doctor answers
The dentist may use anesthetic such as 0.3ml lidocaine with 1:100, 000 epinephrine. Would this interact/ have problems with my heart or BP medication.
Little concern: Stress form the procedure, particularly if you were not numb, would cause your body to release more Epinephrine then what is in the local anesthetic. That said I do try to error on the side of caution depending on the heart condition by not using the maximum dose (approximately 8 full injections) and breaking up multiple procedures over several appointments.See 3 more doctor answers

Can using 0.3ml lidocaine with 1:100, 000 epinephrine during dental work interacts with bystolic, (nebivolol) benicar/hct or isosorbide mononitrate medicine.?
Probably not: Although Lidocaine is a vasodilator, there is no clinical evidence of any drug interactions or special precautions needed. However, if during the injection, some of the anesthetic were to be introduced directly into a blood vessel, the Epinephrine could cause a minor and short acting increase in heart rate.See 2 more doctor answers
