Librium Long Acting Benzodiazepine
What's your opinion on taking a long acting benzodiazepine bid, in combination with a very short acting one (Xanax, Ativan) prn? I've been on Xanax 2m
Which benzodiazepine drug is be most effective as a sleeping tablet, chlordiazepoxide or diazepam?
Neither is/are safe: Chlordiazepoxide (librium) has a half-life of 5-30hrs w/active metabolites staying in your system 3-200hrs! Diazepam (valium) has a half-life of 30-60hrs w/active metabolites staying in your system 30-100hrs. Neither are indicated (approved) for use in insomnia. All benzo & other non-benzo sedative-hypnotics are associated w/increase risk of injuries & even mortality. Http://bit. Ly/kbqlwd. ...Read more
Hello, I take valium 5mg, 3x a day as prescribed. I am searching for possibly a new benzodiazipine, what's your opinion on an equal dosing of librium?
You would take 10mg of librium 3x per day.
I would advise of course to check with your doctor first and make sure to understand that long term use of benzo's are generally not recommended except for very rare situations due to side effects. ...Read more

How long does librium stay in ur system after a librium taper of six days last dose was Thursday and it was 25mg when is it safe to consume alcohol?
Benzos aren't a cure: I agree with dr. Ali. Benzodiazapines numb you to your anxiety but they don't address the underlying cause. They can also be very addicting. A selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor would be a class of medication that could help with the underlying neurochemical problems but psychotherapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy would actually start to give you control. Look into deep breathing ex ...Read more
How long does Paxil (paroxetine) take to have a therapeutic effect? Why does it not work instantaneously, like benzodiazepines?
4-8 weeks: It takes about 4 to 8 weeks to see the full effects of a particular dose of paxil (paroxetine). This is because the immediate Paxil (paroxetine) effects of increasing serotonin levels in the areas that connect brain cells (synapses) are not correlated with changes in mood or anxiety; instead, receptor changes and nerve growth factors stimulated by weeks of elevated serotonin seem to be. ...Read more
On 15mg of Valium a day. I want off benzos. Would Librium or Clorazepate be better to withdrawal from? Valium has a long half life, but not duration.

How long do benzodiazepine withdrawals last? Tapered down off of klonopin and took Xanax (alprazolam) as needed after (usually. 5 mg every 3 days); its been rough
May take a while...:
There can be both physical as well as psychological dependence. If your life is harried and you have taken a lot of klonopin (clonazepam) for some time. It may take longer. The need for treatment may be evident and hope you have been seeing your doctor. Would get further advice on treatment from your doctor or psychiatrist.

I'm tapering off rivotril slowly. When I'm clean, how long will it take before my benzodiazepine tolerance gets back to or close to zero?

My dr placed me on librium for 10 days for alcohol withdrawal. How long do withdrawal symptoms last? Will I be ok after the 10 days I hope?
Yes: Alcohol withdrawal can often last up to 7 days after the last drink. So, after 10 days you should be ok. Note though that this is if you 100% abstain from any alcohol at all, even a sip. Also, taking alcohol and a benzodiazepene like Librium is extremely dangerous as it significantly raises your risk of seizure. Good luck on kicking the habit. ...Read more

Was on librium for anxiety not alcohol abuse. Wanted off was tapered off last 25mg was Thursday. How long until I can consume beer?
I'm currently prescribed librium for G.A.D. and S.A.D., but I'd like to ask my doctor for a replacement that acts faster and longer. Would xanax (alprazolam) work?
Not right approach: As it can be highly addicting, it's not a good med to ask for specifically.Xanax (alprazolam) is short acting, ¬ good for SAD. If treatment is not working adequately, it is important to be frank with the physician treating you; additional treatment such as therapy, and/or med change may be needed. For combined anxiety (GAD) and depression (SAD) disorders, SSRI medications (eg fluoxetine) may be more effective ...Read more
What is safer for long term use and short term for all types of anxiety, benzodiazepines, paxil, zoloft, lexapro, buspar, (buspirone) or marijuana (used correctly)?
Not benzo's.: Hello - long term use of benzodiazapines can lead to tolerance. Marijuana can cause marked psychiatric problems in some people including anxiety, psychosis & paranoia. Paxil can be used long -term but most of my patients have experienced more side effects with it then from Lexapro & zoloft. I see you are on Lexapro -it has an excellent side effect profile. Buspar (buspirone) is very safe for long-term use. ...Read more
What is the name of the anticholinergic component & the benzodiazpine component in the drug librax (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide)?
There is no "best": Benzodiazepines all work on the same receptors, and pretty much do the same thing. Some are short-acting, others intermediate, others long-acting. Some are rapidly absorbed, others slowly. Some hit the brain very fast, others much more slowly. If you want something for temporary anxiety, a rapidly-absorbed short acting drug (like xanax (alprazolam) or ativan) may be best, for gad, Clonazepam or librium. ...Read more
