Acth stimulation test results accurate?

Depends: I'm assuming no lab errors. If you get a very high cortisol spike after receiving the first dose of ACTH, you are reassured you do not have Addison's. No, or a very small spike, strongly suggests Addison's. In-between... that's why there are specialist endocrinologists. ...Read more

Endo just ordered T3 (liothyronine) today; Cortisol a.m.25.5(6.2-19.4); FSH 169.7(25.8-134.8)-is FSH diagnostic in a post oophorectomy patient?

It just confirms: what you already knew, that you've had your ovaries removed and your body is attempting to stimulate them, which is impossible to do since they're gone. It's a worthless test in you. ...Read more

First week of my cycle, progesterone 10ng, prolactin 17.8ng, LH 15.Uiu, FSH 2.5uiu, estradiol 73pg testosteron .4ng. What does this mean?

Basically normal: One needs to know the patients history to be able to accurately interpret lab results. Basically these look normal with the exception of an elevated lh/fsh ratio. That can indicate pcos but only if your history and physical exam fit. Anytime you do testing you should schedule a follow up visit to discuss. ...Read more

Could a TSH blood test detect low testosterone levels?

No: Tsh or thyroid stimulating hormone is only good for assessing thyroid function (either good, overactive or underactive). With that said, during that same blood draw, your blood could potentially be checked for testosterone to determine how much you have. This is best done in the morning. Remember that we really should treat the person (and symptoms), not just a number. Make sure benefit > risk. ...Read more

Hi doctors,I did blood pregnancy test today , hcg level: 46iu/l reference: nonpregnant<10,
. Last period was 17 april.Does this result mean pregnant?

Yes: If a result has to be less than 10 to be considered nonpregnant, then a 46 means pregnant... unless there is another reason for a level that high, such as a gradually falling bHCG level after a miscarriage. Miscarriages are common. In general, if a woman is having sex, and has a positive pregnancy test, she is pregnant. ...Read more

What does these mean: estradiol 30.84pg/ml, FSH 2.73mui/ml, LH 4.70mui/ml, progesterone 1.58mg/ml (tests done today). I'm currently on midcycle period?

Non-specific: These numbers are all "normal" but they do not determine anything specific. It is helpful to know what cycle day they were done and why. I'd "guess" these are pre-ovulatory based on the FSH and the E2, but the progesterone could be borderline ovulatory. Best guess is before ovulation but impossible to say how soon. Best wishes. ...Read more

Hormone test results: Prolactin 209 mu/L, FSH 66.8 IU/L, LH 22.3 IU/L, Oestradiol 168 pmo/L. What does this mean? POF? I'm only 34 years old.

High prolactin: Were these tests done fasting? The FSH and E2 levels do not mean anything specific unless you know for certain what day of your menstrual cycle they were drawn: random tests do not diagnose POF or menopause. The prolactin is abnormally high, it bears repeating, fasting, first thing in the morning. If still abnormal, address the prolactin ,THEN you can check the other levels again. ...Read more

When should preg test done (blood test)..? L.M.P 24/3/2015

Only if Dr. wants it: Otherwise, a home urine test works just fine. Home pregnancy tests are very accurate and not affected by foods, herbs, common illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases, or medications. A correctly done urine test gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have happened) or 1 week after missing a period. Home tests are cheap and sold everywhere. ...Read more
