SSRI: Lexapro (escitalopram) is a "selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor" (SSRI) commonly used to treat depression and chronic anxiety. Similar medicines include Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, and Paxil (paroxetine). They all work similarly but differ a little in their usual side-effects.See 1 more doctor answer
Debating on whether to start my antidepressants again I used to take remeron now im switched 2 lexapro (escitalopram). How do these exactly prevent anxiety attacks?
Discuss this with Dr: Hopefully your dr (or others) can explain too. Drugs will not prevent pas, in fact they can be side effects of those drugs. That said, those are both used for tx of anxiety as well as both being prescribed in depression. I'd like to suggest trying talk therapy too. Cbt can really work for learning ways to both reduce the freq, severity & manage the symptoms you identify. Best wishes.
As safe as most: Lexapro, (escitalopram) an antidepressant & anti-anxiety medication, makes more serotonin available in the brain. Side effects (se's) include GI problems, appetite changes, dizziness, headaches, sexual problems & sleep problems. Most se's are short-term & tolerable, esp. If anticipated. More serious se's are allergic reactions, cardiac changes & odd behaviors. Take it long enough to give it a chance to work.See 2 more doctor answers
SSRI Antidepressant: Lexapro (escitalopram) is a newer ssri antidepressant approved for treatment of unipolar (as opposed to bipolar) depression and generalized anxiety. It is commonly additionally used for a variety of other anxiety conditions. Full benefit can take weeks. It is relatively less likely to result in medication interactions. All antidepressants have risk of emergent suicidal thinking in young people.See 2 more doctor answers
Taking prednisone, flovent, and nasonex: too much steroids? This caused depression? Or likely due to singulair? Dr. Prescribe lexapro (escitalopram). Good idea?
A lot of med: It is not the Flovent or Nasonex (mometasone) but the oral Prednisone which is of concern. Prednisone usually makes people feel good but may induce depression in a few. Singulair rarely causes mental issues. It appears that you may have steroid-resistant asthma and I think it is time for you to consult an allergist. A drug reaction is best treated by stopping the drug and not with another drug.

SSRIs: Prozac and Lexapro (escitalopram) are ssris for the treatment of depression. Lexapro (escitalopram) is also approved for treating anxiety, panic, and ocd, as well as in treating autistic spectrum disorders such as asperger's. Lexapro (escitalopram)... I was wondering if the side effects would be more dangerous to someone who worries about the side effects?!
NOT REALLY: Not more dangerous but sometimes you can have some of the side effects due to worrying or fearing about them.See 3 more doctor answers
Contraindicated?: Because they both can elevate serotonin levels additive side effects can occur. Benefits must outweigh the risks - and the side effects must be carefully monitored. Serotonin syndrome symptoms include: agitation, diarrhea, incoordination, vomiting, increased heart rate, nausea/vomiting, increased blood pressure, and hallucinations. Nortriptyline blood levels could be monitored to prevent toxicity.
I take 60 mg of Vyvanse along with 30 mg of Lexapro (escitalopram) daily. What is the likelihood of developing serotonin syndrome? How deadly is it?
Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine): If u have been on the medications foa a while and tolerating them well, unlikely. Let your prescriber be aware of your concerns.See 1 more doctor answer
Would this make a lethal combination? Family suicide attempt. 30 trazodon 4 quetapine 6 lithium 450 4 lorax 3 300mg bupropione 5 Lexapro (escitalopram) 15mg
Possibly: The likelihood of permanent harm is high, if not death then damage to vital organs directly from the medications (kidney failure from lithium, may require dialysis) or from the body's response to them. Suicide can have tragic consequences even when survived. There is always another option; in the US, call the suicide hotline at 1-800-273-8255, or 911. Having nausea side-effect with Lexapro (escitalopram) even if taken with food. Can I take Tums or another antacid to address?
N: That is a good first choice of tx. Make sure you feel completely normal before retaking it.
Took Lexapro (escitalopram) 10mg for two days then dr said to quit cause side effects. Today is 2nd day not taking it I feel lil better. How long til out of system?
Half-life = 24-25hrs: So, after a day off, you'd have 5mg, the 2nd day, you'd have 2.5mg, 3rd, 1.25 and so on - that's very low - so you should be free of the nasty side effects soon. Clearly, you ae sensitive and before you start ANY medications take the time to read up on them and fully discuss them w/ your provider. Some are very hard to stop. Non-pharma psychotherapy might be a choice to consider. Best!
