Does almond milk interfere with the absorption of Oroxine and slow release T3 (liothyronine) similar to dairy milk? Most have been fortified calcium.
Almond/Oroxine/T3: It is time you go to a library or online to more fully understand the question(s) you have asked. I did my Medical School and Graduate training before I left Sydney for USA and have been here since 1974. Go back "home" infrequently. If you have some difficulty understanding what you read, please send me a note and we can discuss things. ...Read more
I have hypothyroidism and take thyroxine , is it ok for me to eat cruciferous vegetables and soya products?
Yes, however...: Eating large amounts of cruciferous vegetables & soy can suppress thyroid function, but it is not clear how much and moderate consumption, esp. If these are cooked, should not have much of an effect. If you eat very large amounts of these then monitor levels of thyroid hormone to see if you need to take more thyroxine. Milk (calcium) is said to interact with Doxycycline, actually reducing its absorption. Can i have milk and cereal morning and Doxycycline afternoon?
Doxycycline: Absorption of tetracycline is in stomach and upper small intestine. Absorption of tetracyclines may be impaired by milk products, aluminum hydroxide gels, sodium bicarbonate, calcium and magnesium salts and iron preparations. The mechanisms responsible for decreased absorption seems to be chelation and an increase in gastric pH. It is therefore advisable to take doxycycline on an empty stomach. ...Read more
I am breastfeeding. Can i take herbellife soy protienn mix and any supplement? My baby get cow milk allergy from my milk.
Cold milk gives me diarrhea and upset stomach. Hot milk, other milk products and lactose-free milk are ok. What in cold milk could be causing it?
Nothing: Cold milk and hot milk contain the same sugars and proteins. If you are lactose intolerant, you will be equally intolerant to cold and hot milk. Yogurt and cheese often don't cause problems in lactose intolerant people because the bacteria in the yogurt can digest the lactose and most of the lactose is used up in the fermentation process that makes cheese. ...Read more

I take Synthroid (thyroxine) every morning for hypothyroidism. I normally have a soy protein drink every morning. Can the soy interfere with my synthroid (thyroxine)?
Yes it may interfere: Almost everything interferes with absorption of thyroid. If you have been drinking the soy drink with the thyroid, but your doctor thinks the levels look good then don't change what you are doing. However, if you are just beginning synthroid (thyroxine) therapy, wait about 1&1/2 hours after taking the synthroid (thyroxine) before drinking the soy drink. ...Read more

Will I be able to eat foods with added calcium, iron and magnesium if I'm on synthroid (thyroxine)?
Food and thyroid...: You can eat any kind of food if taking Synthroid (thyroxine) as long as you take this tablet away from all food and all medications. I highly recommend for it to be taken in the middle of the night so you are sure nothing interferes with its absoprtion. Once absobed - typically in one hour - then any food will not affect this medication. ...Read more
In canada we can start cows milk at 9 months.. I started giving my baby cows milk to substitute it gradually with breastmilk. Is cows milk ok?
Cow's Milk: Cow's milk is not recommended by the american academy of pediatrics for children under 1 year old. Infants fed whole cow's milk don't get enough vitamin e, iron, and essential fatty acids. They also get too much protein, sodium, and potassium. These levels may be too high for the infant's system to handle. Also, whole cow's milk protein and fat are more difficult for an infant to digest and absorb. ...Read more
I am pumping to feed my baby breast milk but also using formula. (i'm not producing enough). Should I do breast milk only and formula only bottles?
I would: I don't have science behind this, but i don't know if mixing breast milk and formula will break down the good proteins in either liquid. I'm probably being overly cautious with this recommendation. So, if it was my baby, i wouldn't mix. Hope that helps! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Lactose intolerant: almond or soy milk? Can high sodium in almond make soy better choice?2cup of soy milk a day bad for a male? Soy cause breast growt
Your choice...: I like almond milk. Soy milk causes me and many others to have large amounts of gas. If you don't have this problem, then use the soy as it has more protein. Otherwise, almond milk is a good choice so long as you don't have a nut allergy. Use the unsweetened version of either one... ...Read more
