Autoimmune disease: Sounds like you have an underlying autoimmune disease such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis or a combination. The underlying disease seems to be maintained though can always cause some discomfort, without having a flare up, which is why your CRP is normal. You will need full work up for definitive diagnosis including xrays and further serology such as ccp, anti lipoproteins, ssa, ssb, etc. ...Read more

My aunt had cll, & I have a tiny IgM kappa monoclonal in beta2, 24 hour urine has elevate creatinine, elevated crp. What's going on?

Need work-up: You should see a hematologist/oncologist and have some work-up done- some blood works and a bone marrow biopsy would be important. There are different conditions that can cause monoclonal protein- and this needs to be investigated further. ...Read more

Creatinine 1.2, anemia, flank pain 2weeks post-pylo, elevated crp, c.t no stones, edema feet & hands, painful lymph. Waiting on urology. Worried. Er?

Here are some. ..: Your depicted scenario suggests you got a host of acute & chronic health concerns. So, if you've no fever / chill, less flank pain over time, stable or less edema, no short of breath, you may wait for 3-5 days; if not or not sure, go to ER / urgent care / your urologist for timely attention. But, disregard of who, what, when, and how you are, always practicing low-risk healthy lifestyle.... ...Read more

What does a high level of a cardio CRP test mean?

What does a high level of a cardio CRP test mean?

Silent inflammation: High cardio CRP is a measure of silent inflammation around the heart. When elevated you have higher risk for cardiovascular disease. This is a lifestyle indicator that your current way of living needs to improve with better nutrition, weight loss, exercise, vitamin repletion especiallyw ith antioxidants and anti inflammatories, better sleep & maybe hormones. ...Read more

I feel okay but my CRP levels were high and apparently that means inflammation?

I feel okay but my CRP levels were high and apparently that means inflammation?

Forget about it: Many people run a high CRP for no reason. It may be genetic, and hopefully you know that the reference ranges are set so that several % of healthy folks fall outside. As a lab specialist, I don't even think folks should be screened -- but in today's medicine, physicians may need to "cover their butts" with this kind of unnecessary testing. Get on with your life. ...Read more

What does high CRP levels mean? Dr said there could be some inflammation but it can be a virus. Should I be concerned? Also, IgA levels were low

Need more info: Elevated CRP is a measure of an inflammatory process, even such as a predisposition to heart disease and a host of other conditions. It also depends on what kind of symptoms you have in order to make sense out of it. Milly reduced IgA levels (but higher than 30mg/dl) are of no concern by themselves. Levels under 10mg/dl are the commonest immune abnormality. No treatment necessary. ...Read more

Risk factors: Risk factors mean that you have increased risk of developing the problem. They don't necessrily mean you have it at the time. It does mean you should work with your doctor to decrease your risk factors thru not smoking, diet, exercise, bp and blood sugar control also cholesterol control. ...Read more

What does it mean if your creatinine level is too high 1.16 and your bun/creatinine ratio is very low at a 5?

What does it mean if your creatinine level is too high 1.16 and your bun/creatinine ratio is very low at a 5?

Why do you ask?: Labs mean nothing in the absence of a clinical history. You might be a vegan bodybuilder. When I was lifting weights every day, my creatinine ran 1.6-1.8. The fellow-pathologists with whom I've discussed it think that reports generated by labs are causing overdiagnosis of renal disease (it's subscience -- "there's an adjustment for race because black people are more muscular.") ...Read more

My son is 16 years old 5'10" 162 lbs. I was told his creatinine level was a bit high (1.1). What does this mean? How will this affect him?

Whoa: Unless junior's personal physician very much disagrees, i'd ignore it. The "reference range" was set for non-exercising adults. Any teenaged boy with good muscles will have creatinine 1.1 or higher; in whole classes of athletic med students, most men had creatinine above this. When I was lifting daily, mine was 1.6; a bodybuilder often has 2.0. Too many lawyers and too little common sense. ...Read more

Do high creatinine levels mean renal failure?

Do high creatinine levels mean renal failure?

High creatinine: Serum c is dependent on the person's weight, race and age. You need to have a 24 hour urine collection for a creatinine (c) clearance determination to know what your renal function is. When the urine is returned, blood is taken for a c level. That is the sure way to know how serious your creatinine level is and what your true renal function is. ...Read more

What does it mean low creatinine levels and high bun creatinine ratio?

Muscle mass: Serum levels of creatinine depend on renal function, muscle mass and intake of muscles foods. A low creatinine level is of no consequence as long as you are not emaciated. Paralyzed, or have extensive amputations. High ratio just reflects low creatinine. ...Read more

What does it mean if both bun & creatinine levels are good, but the ratio is high?

I have my 2nd surgical hernia my doc gave me a CRT with dye. My creatinine (POC) level was 120. Is this high? What does it mean.

Talk w/your doc: When reviewing your test results, check out the normal reference range. Abnormal results are usually highlighted, boldfaced or placed in "abnormal" column. Creatinine is what we measure in your blood to check kidney function but true measure of kidney function depends upon age, gender, weight & ethnicity which is used to calculate eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate). So go chat w/your doc. ...Read more

My lab results show high levels of protein in urine 27 mg, urine creatinine 316.3 mg but levels of protein/creatinine ratio 90 mg. What does it mean?

Ur Protein/Cr ratio: The urine protein to urine creatinine ratio is an estimate of the 24hr urine protein. It is less cumbersome and quick. A urine protein to creatinine ratio of 0.15 or less would be consdered normal. For example urine protein of 30 and urine creatinine of 300 would be a upc of 0.1. ...Read more

My lab results show high levels of protein in urine 27 mg, urine creatinine 316.3 mg but levels of protein/creatinine ration 90 mg. What does it mean?

Protein in urine: The results mean that you probably have a lot of protein in your urine. To determine how much, you need to see a nephrologist and have a 24 hour urine collection to assess the amount of protein in your urine as well as your renal function. Depending on the amount of protein in your urine, you may need to have additional blood tests to see if you have any type of glomeulonephritis or diabetes. ...Read more
