Is it okay to run on an MCL sprain even if it still hurts all around my inside and outside knee?

Is it okay to run on an MCL sprain even if it still hurts all around my inside and outside knee?

Probably want to: Take it a little bit easy here. Not likely to do any permanent damage, but will likely slow your recovery. At the least wear some loose brace to give the joint some extra support and run in controlled circumstances where you will not stumble and risk worsening the injury. ...Read more

What is the recovery time for a grade 1 MCL sprain?

Variable: For a mild, grade I mcl sprain, recovery can be variable from 4 to 8 weeks. Influencing variables include your sex, age, and other medical conditions. In addition, how aggressive you are with daily physical rehabilitation, either at home and/or with a physical therapist, and wearing an appropriate brace will also influence how quickly you can return to your prior level of activity. ...Read more

Does anybody have any good recommendations for someone who's recovering from MCL sprain?

Relative rest: Vast majority of MCL injuries heal. Higher grade injuries, usually evaluated by MRI, should be protected in hinged knee brace while weight bearing typically for about 6 wks. Would probably advise against sporting activites during that time but can go about day to day activities and work. Anti-infammatories/Ice may be helpful during acute phase. ...Read more

What is a "high grade sprain of the mcl" exactly? What is its equivilancy on the numbered grading system of 1 o 3?

What is a "high grade sprain of the mcl" exactly? What is its equivilancy on the numbered grading system of 1 o 3?

High grade =3=bad: The grading scale is based on finding on mri--grade 1 = minor sprain, grade 2=severe prain/partial tear, and grade 3 =complete disruption of the ligament. In general, isolated mcl injury is not repaired, but for athletes surgical correction is often recommended. If you are having trouble, consult your doc--an orthopedic surgeon/sports medicine doc maybe needed. Good luck. ...Read more

What is the possibility of tearing my MCL if I already have an MCL sprain and tendonitis?

What is the possibility of tearing my MCL if I already have an MCL sprain and tendonitis?

Common: Mcl tears are usually graded i-iii. Grade three is a complete tear shown by instability in valgus stress of the knee. If this is present, and you continue sports you will reinjure the knee when you pivot. An acl tear often accompanies the mcl tear, these do not heal. After the sprain of the mcl, at least 6 weeks of healing should pass prior to return to sports. Gentle rehab should be done dur. ...Read more

Did I sprain my mcl? Or what? Pain on the inner side of my knee when I bend it

Meniscus or sprain: Medial knee pain without a specific injury is usually not a mcl (medial collateral ligament) sprain or tear. It could be a torn meniscus, arthritis, or a tendonitis. See an orthopedic doctor and get it evaluated. I predict an MRI in your future. ...Read more

After MCL surgery, can I sprain my lcl by putting a lot of weight after I can start walking?

Unlikely: The lcl would be strained by putting an abnormal force against the medial part of the knee. This is unlikely to happen while walking. What is a MCL sprain and how long does it take to go away? Can a sprain lead to a tear? Is the MCL on the joint line? Please help

MCL Sprain: The Medial Collateral Ligament is on the inside of the knee. It attaches above and below the joint line. A sprain can last up to 6 weeks. Usually the MCL sprain does not lead to a tear without having ACL or meniscus involvement. Using a knee sleeve may help give you more stability. If it is severe you may need to use crutches until you are able to put weight on it. OTC pain meds can help. ...Read more

How should the doctor treat my MCL knee sprain?

How should the doctor treat my MCL knee sprain?

MCL sprain: It depends upon the severity and other associated injuries, such as meniscal tear, acl and PCL and lcl tear. A mild sprain (grade! Mcl) just requires rest/possible short term bracing. Isolated mcls usually don't require surgery. If surgery is being done for other reasons and the mcl is grade 3 (complete), then surgery can be entertained. ...Read more

How can I speed up rehab my knee (sprained mcl) so I can get back to basketball faster?

Motion/strength: You cannot really speed up the healing of the mcl. It will take 2-3 months to heal regardless of how it is treated. However, knee motion and quad strength can easily worsen as a result of mcl tears. If you work on motion and work on quad strengthening, this will not happen and you will be much faster on your road to recovery back onto the court. ...Read more
