Not allergic to cipro, (ciprofloxacin) but allergic to avelox and levaquin does this make sense? What to take for prostate? Allergic to bactrim ad well.
Unusual: Since they are all in the quinolone class, it is surprising. On the other hand, each drug has its own chemical structure and thus it is possible that you are not reacting to one of the group. In general, if I get a history of a reaction to two drugs in the same class, I will select an alternate. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Chr, recurrent UTI: Need sensitivities to dictate your antibiotic type and course of treatment. Do you have back pain? There may be a reason for recurrent, chronic UTI's such as urethral stricture or bladder or kidney stones. Since you are taking prednisone, your immune function is also suppressed. Consider an ID or Urology specialist. Might also have a neurogenic bladder that doesn't completely empty. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) x3da for toe infection; tolerated but still red and swollen. Levaquin proposed but am afraid of side effects. Give bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) more time or change?
The choice of: Antibiotic is based on the organism growing. Culturing a wound helps in identifying the organism. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is not the most common antibiotic for lower extremity infections. Since you mention that one and levoquin it sounds like you are penicillin allergic. If Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is not working, consider doxycycline. Levoquin carries risk of tendon ruptures. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Both can work: Levaquin is an excellent antibiotic for sinusitis, although very expensive and with the rare, but significant side effect of tendonopathy and tendon rupture. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) (septra) is also good, and a fraction of the cost. I culture many of patients sinuses and am consistently surprised the number of bacteria sensitive to bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). ...Read more

I'm taking levaquin (levofloxacin) and its making me not sleep...What can I take. I feel terrible, ?
I'm taking levaquin for the first time. How long after taking the first dose can dangerous side effects begin?
Little risk or worry: Levoflocaxin (Levaquin) is a very safe drug; dangerous side effects are rare. In the very unlikely event of something serious, it could start within an hour of the first dose or several weeks later. But you really shouldn't be worried. Undoubtedly the infection being treated is a lot more dangerous than the antibiotic. ...Read more

I'm on bactrim and everytime I smoke it makes me feel really nauseous, should I quit while I'm taking the medication?
Good question: Your question should be, what is more important, your health or your need to smoke. This symptom of nausea is a wake up call TO STOP SMOKING forever and continue to take the Bactrim to rid yourself of the infection. I know it can be hard to stop smoking, but as is said the journey of a long life starts with the first step and that step is to stop smoking to avoid cancer & lung disease. ...Read more

How do I know when I no longer have a uti? I had none of the usual symptoms when I was diagnosed? I'm on levaquin (levofloxacin) for 5 days. How do I know if it work
I was just diagnosed with ca-mrsa and I'm scared since it is often resistant to drugs. I just started bactrim ds tonight. What are the chances of it not responding to any drug? How can you know if it's caught early enough? Thank you!
Partially resistant: Ca MRSA is not particularly worse than having regular staph infection. It is not related to the flesh eating bacteria scare. The choice of antibiotics is limited, but generally the infection is sensitive to at least a few of the mainstream antibiotics of which Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is one. If your doctor thought you were at great risk you would not be at home. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
