Leukocytes On Urine Dipstick
Urine is the product of the kidneys, which is produced to eliminate the waste products of metabolism, manage body fluid balance, &maintain acid-base balance. The blood is first filtered by the kidneys, and the composition of the resulting fluid is then altered depending on the body's needs. It is composed of mostly water, and breakdown products from blood cells impart ...Read more
Why do I still have nitrates and leukocytes on my urine dipstick when the urine culture is negative?
Many reasons: There are many possible reasons why a urine culture is negative but the nitrates and leukocytes are positive. 1. If your taking antibiotics then that would prevent growth of the urine culture. 2. The leukocytes and nitrates do not represent an actual bacterial infection but other viral, chemical, or environmental reasons for a positive result 3. Dipstick test or urine culture tests are false.
Gross painless hematuria once for 24 hours. Leukocytes found in dipstick but Urine C/S neg. Should I go for immediate cystoscopy or wait and watch?
Blood in urine: I would recommend checking with your urologist. Sometimes the upper system needs to be checked (kidneys and ureters) with a CT scan or a pyelogram before you can proceed to a scope.
Stone?: Some bacteria like Proteus associated with Struvite stones produce an enzyme called Urease which increases urine pH and can produce white cells or leukocytes in the urine. This is one possibility. The second is that you are taking a medication that alkalinizes urine. Please review your med list.
Why would I still have nitrate and leukocytes present in my urine dipstick result after antibiotic treatment?
Not cured.: These may be indicators that the infection has not been "cured, " which is more likely if your practitioner "emperically" gave you an anitbiotic, without obtaining a urine culture and sensitivity test. If you are symptomatic, you should see your doctor, particularly if this study was not done.
Urine dipstick shows leukocytes, protein and presence of blood. I have no other symptoms of a UTI. Is this something else?
Urinary evaluation: Well this is clearly an abnormal finding -so a professional evaluation is warranted. I would be looking for a full urinalysis -not just a dipstick. There are other diseases that could cause 'sediment' in the urine -so part of this could be explained by whatever medical issues you have now. I would call your primary doc and set up an apt-preferably this week. If you get urinary symptoms-Urgent Care
Will yeast infections show leukocytes on a urineanalysis dipstick? I have a 4 year old daughter that constantly has large leukocytes in her urine?
? collection method?: Most get pee at this age from having a kid pee in a cup. Unfortunately this squat pee is a vaginal washout mixed with pee and this can show leukocytes. I try to get moms to clean the area and get a labia spread (like a boy) pee if possible. If not a catheter specimen will bypass the washout effect. Kids with some stress or fever may show leukocytes in their pee, but it should not be a large amount
Worst uti symptoms ever. Severe bladder pain, burning, urgency, FOUL urine. Uti dipstick only picked up trace leukocytes and no nitrites? Infection?
Here are some...: Go to be checked by following instructions in the articles listed in http://formefirst. Com/onDealSickness. Html & in http://formefirst. Com/onUTI. Html. Besides, it is still worthwhile to be treated once empirically since some 25-30% of women with typical UIT symptoms - dysuria, frequency, & urgency - will turn out to have negative urine culture. So doing, you gain insight on how to work with doctor.
Urine dipstick test shows pH of 7.0 and traces of leukocytes and protein. She prescribed Macrobid I went in for loose stools and back and pelvic pain. Should I take the medication
No: Trace leucocytes & trace protein are within normal limits & may be simple contaminants such as from vaginal epithelial cells. Presumably nitrite was negative which would have indicated baceria in your urine. Urine culture from a mid stream specimen, separating labia to avoid contamination, after cleansing with soap towlettes, would be more definitative for uti. That way you and your dr. Would know.
Does pyridium (phenazopyridine) prevent a urine dipstick for leukocytes from showing? Can a woman with flank pain and urinary burning on pyridium (phenazopyridine) have a pyelonephriti
Yes and yes: Pyridium (phenazopyridine) dyes the urine orange & that color can interfere with the dipstick test for leukocytes. But the gold-standards for diagnosing UTI's is looking for leukocytes under the microscope (for immediate dx) & culture. Pyridium (phenazopyridine) does not interfere with those. Pyridium (phenazopyridine) only reduces symptoms & doesn't treat the infection. You might have pyelonephritis, which can be serious. Seek medical attention ASAP!
Will a urine SPG of 1.010 provide a valid dipstick urinalysis for WBC and RBC, and other components on the dipstick? Are neg results valid w this SPG?
YES: Normal dipstick results.Get a more detailed answer ›
For a urologist - how long is a urine sample valid for WBC & RBC dipstick and micro exam when refrigerated. No preservatives used, just refrigerated.?
A few hours: Generally, 24 to 72 hours. The manufacturer of the containers or the lab you use may be a source of information on how long to preserve the specimen reliablySee 1 more doctor answer
Chronic hematuria, trace protein on urine dipstick. Saw urology had cyst done everything fine. Kidney US normal. Low wbc for past year. No anemia.???
Your Quetion is uncl: Please make your question more clear. Send us the results of your complete blood count (CBC) so that we can assess your WBC count and differential count. We can also tell if you do or do not have anemia once we look over your numbers in your CBC, Diff and Platelet counts. Complete info would be most helpful.
Usually normal: Leukocyte esterase released by lysed neutrophils and macrophages is a surrogate marker of the presence of white blood cells (WBCs). Leukocyte esterase suggests that there are white blood cells in the urine. Trace means few WBC produced small amount of leucocyte esteraseSee 1 more doctor answer
All urine results, neg, but LEUKOCYTE ESTERASE shows MODERATE. What does this mean? Last time it was SMALL/Clear. This time MODERATE/SLIGHTLY-CLOUDY.
Urinalysis: Cloudy urine and urine containing white blood cells (leukocytes) don't necessarily signify a urinary tract infection. The white cells may be contaminants from a vaginal infection or discharge. A clean catch urine culture would rule in or out a urinary tract infection. If you have a vaginal discharge, see your gynecologist and he/she can order any appropriate urinary tests if no vaginal infection
Hi my urine is showing positive leukocyte Estrada +3 also also 20/40 WBC any ifnfo would be greta?
Infection: Those findings are concerning for infection. Knowing the rest of the results of the uti analysis as well as the results of a urine culture would help in finalizing the diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
