Can a bone lesion on the spine cause a bulging disc?

Can a bone lesion on the spine cause a bulging disc?

No: While both bone lesion (spurs or osteophytes) and discs can compress nerves and cause symptoms, the bone lesion does not cause the discs to bulge. If you mean a condition called spondylolisthesis or spondylolysis, then the instability from these conditions can cause the vertebra to move apart in an abnormal way, in which case the disc bulge may result from that. ...Read more

My current MRI of cervical spine shows reactive endplate changes and large central disc extrusion at c3/c4 indenting on spinal cord. Should I Worry?

My current MRI of cervical spine shows reactive endplate changes and large central disc extrusion at c3/c4 indenting on spinal cord. Should I Worry?

Herniated disc: Not to worry but you should visit a neurosurgeon in the next week for evaluation and treatment. Hand tingling and weakness is a sign of cord compression. Do not do repetitive lifting and bending (housework/yardwork) until a neurosurgeon sees you because the weakness and numbness could worsen with these activities. Avoid contact sports or jarring exercises (running) too. ...Read more

MRI result?: So- what does this mean? It is common for MRI of the c-spine to show degenerative changes. Impingement of the thecal sac is not normally concerning. It is unclear what is meant by "exit neuroforaminal encroachment". Was there encroachment or not? If it is there, this normally means nerve root encroachment, which can cause symptoms that affect the arms. ...Read more
