Elevation of sgpt to 66 u/i is it due to olmesartan 10mg or to lercanidipine 20mg knowing that patient is taking these two medications, please advice?

See professionals...: If your testing SGPT is a part of watching your use of both medication, you should see and talk with the doctor who prescribed them. It's not a good idea, spend time to talk, guess, and worry over online.

Best luck... ...Read more

I did liver test and I don't have hepatitis a, b, or c and my sgpt is 66 (>45)plus I'm taking olmesartan 10mg+lercanidipine 20mg, is it due to medications?

Alcohol, fatty liver: Could be meds but just as likely this mild elevation in transaminase liver levels could be due to other things (like mild-moderate alcohol use, or fatty infiltration of liver). Fatty liver is more likely if there are elevated triglycerides or signs of Insulin resistance (low hdl, elevated triglycerides, obesity, or hga1c > 5.6). Can also be seen if associated sleep apnea. ...Read more

I am taking lercanidipine and olmesartan 20mg each everyday and I am having erectile dysfunction & I don't think from medications, probably due to htn?

Erectile Dysfunction: Lercandiipine (l) is a member of the calcium channel blocker antihypertensive drugs. Olmesartan (o) is a member of the angiogtensin receptor blocker (arb) class of drugs. Neither l nor o apart, on in combination, are known to cause erectile dysfunction (ed). You are correct in that your ed may due to hypertension, rather than the drugs you are to treat it. See a urologist for more ed information. ...Read more

Is it possible for lercanidipine to cause heart rate to rise from 90 to 135-150bp at rest?

Is it possible for lercanidipine to cause heart rate to rise from 90 to 135-150bp at rest?

Possible: It shouldn't do it directly, but your heart rate may rise to attempt compensation for a drop in blood pressure. It's not typically a desired effect, and you should get an evaluation to make sure it's a normally fast heart rhythm, rather than an arrhythmia. If it continues, or you find yourself dizzy, short of breath, then speak with your doctor about switching medications. Call 911 if severe. ...Read more

I have protein in urine although I am taking olmesartan 10mg and lercanidipine 20mg, what should I do to decrease it down from 357 to below 250 in 24hr?

Find cause: You're hypertensive but do not list any explanation for your proteinuria. I'm sure you understand that you don't take pills to treat lab values. Your have a right to know why you have proteinuria, including having simple orthostatic proteinuria ruled in or out. Do you have renal insufficiency? Is your proteinuria selective or not? You need to insist on an explanation. ...Read more

My father 73, had CKD s.cr1.7, paroxysmal afib mild lvH 1d.h block he use betaloc 25, lercanidipine 20, what can I add to control his Bp?

Can't tell Alaa: Hope your father will be better, unfortunately we can't judge which way to go or what drug to add in your father's rather complex case and this limited platform, which isn't meant for diagnosis/treatment, rather for guidance and advice. Your father's best bet is to follow up closely with a primary physician that he trusts, his primary doctor would orchestrate his care with cardiology/nephrology ...Read more

Which dihydropyridine CCB is better for controlling Bp and has less side effects including pedal edema (amlodipine or lercanidipine) esp in ElderlyCkD?

Medications: Amlodipine tends to cause peripheral/pedal edema fairly regularly.
Lercanidipine has the same effect on BP as amlodipine and has been shown to have less pedal edema.
Both drugs are metabolized by the liver and should be okay for use in an elderly patient with CKD, Lercanidipine may even have protective kidney effects. ...Read more

Your opinion about lercanidipine vs amlodipine in htn control in 72 htn male with renal impairment and LVH, paroxysmal a fib?

Hi BP drugs: They are both in the same class of drugs called calcium channel blockers for treatment of high BP. If that does not lower it enough there are many additional classes of meds that can be added such as angiotensin blockers, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, diuretics, life style changes. Why take low dosage of blood pressure medication 12.5 mg of hydrochloride if my blood pressure jumped around but was never high.

Why take low dosage of blood pressure medication 12.5 mg of hydrochloride if my blood pressure jumped around but was never high.

It depends: It may actually be for your kidneys, but not highly likely. More likely, it is to lower the "peaks" of your blood pressure, so they do not get as high. If you see #s >140 / >90, then your doc is likely doing this. If not, then you should ask your doc the rationale for the med since nothing is risk-free. ...Read more

I know brintellix and viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) are both very new. Is it safe to try such new medication without there being alot of studies done? Side effects?

Yes: For a medication to be sold in the USA, it has to be approved by the FDA, (federal drug administration), which makes the Drug Co. Go thru very rigorous trials to prove they are effective and "save" in human subjects.
