Could be normal: You might have just compressed your sciatic nerve - the main nerve from your spine that extends all the way to the toes. Sometimes you can sit on this nerve "wrong" and cause compression and a transient tingling and numbness. If this only happens with certain seated positions, then I wouldn't worry. Unrelated: If you remember that the nerves in the skin run in all directions including across the area that is now your open wound. In addition, there is inflammation of healing (red, hot, swollen and tender) that may involve that nerve. Plus, the trauma may have cut or otherwise damaged that nerve. See doctor...: How long were you sitting in that position? You need to sit in a chair and keep your foot dangling. Then, keep moving your foot. If this doesn't improve the numbness, see a doctor ASAP. If this helps, then try walking until your symptoms resolve. If your symptoms don't resolve, see doctor ASAP. More info needed: Does the swelling go down if you keep foot elevated? What was the nature of the injury? Your symptoms could be from injury to the vascular supply to or from the foot or from nerve injury or chronic inflammation. It sounds like you first had an internal injury to your knee, and did the right thing by giving it a chance to heal. You can injure the peroneal nerve near the knee. You : You probably injured or compressed a nerve (bruise causing compression) when you fell, which in turn is causing the numbness. This should improve as the bruising subsides. If it gets worse or you have extreme pain or difficulty walking, see your doctor. In the meantime take advil (ibuprofen) or Ibuprofen to help with pain and to decrease swelling.

Ankle sprain: Sounds like a bad ankle sprain with swelling. The swelling could cause pressure around nerves and could be causing the tingling pain to foot and toes. Have you tried resting with icing, elevation and compression wrapping? Antiinflammatory medication like Motrin or advil (ibuprofen) will help decrease pain and swelling. Bracing may be needed too. Primary care: Would see your primary care first. If there is significant pain the X-rays should be repeated. Some fractures don't show up immediately after the injury, but after 10 weeks will be visible. Your primary care can then make a referral to an orthopedic surgeon if needed. The numbness may just be from the injury, can take six months to resolve (traumatic neuropathy). ...Read more
