Several ddx: Could be from several reasons, including gout (unlikely due to your gender), infection (unlikely unless open wound), ligament strain (possible, from overuse), blood clot (unlikely but you are at increased risk if you smoke and use bc), impingement (possible if you wear certain shoes), plantar fasciitis (heel pain can appear near ankle). Could be...: This could be simply neuropathy (pinched nerve incited by position, such as lying supine) or something more serious such as reduced blood flow to the extremities (claudication in peripheral artery disease). How do I know if I have bone spurs on my heel. Every morning when I get up I cannot put weight on my left heal because it feels like there is a knife sticking in it. It eases off after a while but, never completely goes away. Is this a sign of a bon?

With that in mind both plantar fasciitis and heel spurs will present the same way.
