Talk with your neuro: logist post EMG to find out what nerve damage may have occurred that is contributing, especially since your EMG was normal. What was his/her advice to you? Herniated discs and sciatica don't normally cause calf atrophy. Ask him/her about your concerns with ALS, as you're not saying you have the typical symptoms of spasticity, spasms, cramps, fasciculations, or spreading of atrophy to other areas. ...Read more
Nerve pressure: I would like to know if the numbness is on one side of the toe or the other. It is over the top or tip of your toe? More than likely it is pressure on the nerves that run up the side of your toe from the other toe. Try separating the two toes with something soft like a cotton ball and see if the numbness resolves. Prob not epidural : More likely than not, your symptoms are from nerve compression and should resolve on it's own. I have patient's who occasionally have "help" with their legs or they themselves pull on their own legs with enough force or duration to cause "tingling or numbness." if these don't slowly resolve or improve in a couple of days, call your OB doc for follow up.
