Muscle (Definition)

It is a body tissue that has the ability to contract. It shortens and generates force. It relaxes and returns to its original length. Muscles move joints, stabilize the body, move air and food through the organs, act as valves for bladder, bowel and other organs. They control movement of the eyes. Do you think wearing flip flops could cause muscle and leg pain?

Do you think wearing flip flops could cause muscle and leg pain?

Yes!: Muscle cramps are sometimes caused when we use muscles repeatedly (over and over again) that we don't usually use. For example someone who wears shoes wearing flip flops all day at the beach. I am having continuous leg pain specially in my leg muscles after running.. i am running since 60 days but the pain is increasing instead..

Consider DVT first: Always consider possibility of a deep vein thrombosis FIRST. If it is NOT DVT, look for other causes – trauma / overuse, hereditary myopathy, autoimmune myopathy, toxic myopathy (caffeine?), arterial disease / malformations, nerve roots disease. ...Read more

Severe leg pain from sciatica, torn hamstring, both or something else?

Unknown: Severe leg pain can be caused by many things. Think about what's in there-blood vessels (disease can cause pain), muscles (rarely if ever a primary cause of pain), tendons and ligaments (can be torn in accident), joints (hip and knee can both cause pain), and nerves. In addition, damage to various structures in the back can cause leg pain. To find out, see doctor and get mri. ...Read more

5 years of unbearable muscle leg pain. Lots of meds prescribed to try to help relieve the pain but no relief. CPK is high. Can a DNA test help?

5 years of unbearable muscle leg pain. Lots of meds prescribed to try to help relieve the pain but no relief. CPK is high. Can a DNA test help?

If your CPK-MM is: elevated (that's the portion of CPK that comes from skeletal muscle), then a much more worthwhile initial test is a muscle biopsy. Depending on the results of the muscle biopsy, genetic testing (including mitochondrial DNA) may be done to confirm certain diagnoses. Unfortunately, treatment hasn't kept up with diagnosis in many genetic disorders. Best wishes. Dr. Anne ...Read more

If i woke-up this morning with leg pain, should I be concerned? It feels as if i may have pulled a muscle, but could i actually do that in my sleep?

You : You haven't said anything about your age, gender, medical history, or overall state of health, so it's a little tough for me to narrow things down, but there are some things that would explain this. Given the snowfall in seattle over the past few days, have you maybe been doing some shoveling of snow or maybe some skiing or other vigorous physical activity? Could you have slipped while walking on the ice? Overuse of muscles or trauma might cause pain that wakes you up. A muscle cramp might also cause this type of localized pain. If you have a history of vascular disease, or are at risk for it (older age group, high cholesterol, smoker or diabetic) then this could represent a blocked blood vessel. Do you have ongoing pain? Numbness? Are your symptoms increased with exercise? If so, then you should be evaluated for compromised blood flow. ...Read more

Old man with pain in neck near top of scalene muscle, and leg pain.Pain comes and goes and triggers when twisting his neck to right. What can be said?

Muscle or ligament: Sounds like a mainly muscular or connective tissue issue. Restriction and pain in one area such as the neck can actually relate to other areas because of the way the body is put together. An osteopath that does manual medicine might be ideal to see, or a physical therapist to get some evaluation, a clear diagnosis, and treatment. Arthritis can be a part of that as well. ...Read more
