L4-5, s1 herniation, numbness down left leg for two years. Should I put any hope in the new antibiotic research for herniated discs?
It won't happen: In our generation based on my feeble thinking. Degeneration of disc (part of aging) with /accompanying herniation/ slipped disc, spinal stenosis/narrowing of spinal canal would cause sciatica. Antibiotics would kill bacteria but won't affect degeneration of body parts. Take care and god bless u! http://www. M.Webmd. Com/back-pain/tc/degenerative-disc-disease-topic-overview. ...Read more
I have slipped disc l4, L5 and s1 from two years now. I want to know wether slipped disc is completely curable? Have numbness in left leg.
Can be: This really depends on what treatment you have had done. If by slipped you mean herniated, the typical treatment is pain medications and therapy, followed by epidurals and if necessary surgery. If its just numbness, there are medications to treat that although their efficacy varies. Consider seeing a physiatrist. ...Read more

Two hernia surgery lst year in apr for repair and dec for mesh removal. I now have numb tingling, burning outer thigh and hurts to touch plus discolor?
Nerve Pain: After the initial hernia repair there is always a risk of nerve injury. When someone has gone through two inguinal surgeries there is a very high likelihood of injury to the ilioinguinal and genitofemoral nerve. This can lead to numbness and tingling of the inner thigh and medial groin area. There is also a risk of abscess or fluid collection which can lead to the discoloration. See UR Surgeon ...Read more

For years now I have a problem on my leg. Sometimes it hurts, burns, its numb, its really sensitive... Its not the nerves and nobody knows what it is?
Need a neurologist: Your symptoms are concerning for some type of nerve issue. The most likely source would come from your spine. The next cause could be a pinched nerve in the leg itself or a tumor involving the nerve. Lastly a neurological disorder like ms could cause such symptoms rarely. Regardless, a neurologist can assess your exam and order appropriate imaging, electrical tests or blood tests for diagnosis. ...Read more

My mom (55 years old) has diabetes, she's been medicated. Problem is she's feeling numbness on her legs. Is it related?
Probably: Diabetes commonly is associated with peripheral neuropathy, which is damage to the nerves, usually beginning in the ends of the nerves. Diabetes medications and other ways of controlling diabetes can help control and slow down the progression of the neuropathy. There are over the counter (acetyl l carnitine) and prescription (gabapentin) treatments for symptoms related to diabetic neuropathy. ...Read more

Ortho Eval needed: Dynamic positional paresthesia (numbness) of both lower extremities means the main sensory nerves are being transiently compressed enough to cause numbness. The most likely culprit for location of compression would be centrally in the spine. Seek an orthopaedic surgeon or spine/neurosurgeon evaluation to determine the cause. After 2 knee replacements, I have numbness in both legs, years after surgery. I feel very clumsy and afraid of falling. What could it be?
I had a laminectomy 2 years ago, between my knee and hip on left leg, I have burnng on the inside and numbness on the surface, will it go away?
How old R symptoms?: If the leg symptoms were present before the laminectomy, I would not expect them to go away. They are caused by nerve irritation. If you had the numbness symptoms this long, they may not recover- it has been longer than 18 months. On the other hand, the burning probably will go away. If the symptoms are not related to the laminectomy, then I would have to give a different answer. ...Read more
Constant leg pain I've been diagnosed with bilateral meralgia paraesthetica for over 2 years. My legs are always numb and the pain would start after any kind of activity throughout the day reaching its peak in about 5 hrs. For about three months now the p
Meralgia: Meralgia paresthetica is a very annoying neuropathy. It sometimes appears after gyn surgery or during pregnancy when the increasedsize of the belly puts pressure on the small nerve that supplies the skin on the outside of the thigh. This irritates that nerve and causes the burning, painful sensation. The nerve does not supply any muscles. The nerve passes from the pelvis to the thigh below the crest of the hip. Mri will not show it. Ultrasound is sometimes used. The treatment may include surgery to release the nerve or local anesthetic patches to decrease the pain. If you are carrying extra weight you can help take the pressure off by losing some weight. If you are a guy who wears a tool belt make sure it doesn't hang down too low. If you put your hands on your hips and point down with your pinky you will be at the approximate point where the nerve comes through the groin. I hope you find some relief. The only good news is that the problem is not in the spine. ...Read more

Difficult dilemma: Although you could be experiencing nerve compressions at several levels in your spine, you might also be suffering cervical stenosis, which is compressing spinal cord and nerve roots.
