The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Really intense cough: All the parts of your body are connected so if you have a really intense cough it is not surprising that you feel it rattling other parts of your body. Now the question is why are you coughing so intensely. I obviously don't know what is causing the cough. It could be an infectious process, an allergic one or something else. You should see your doc ASAP and get a work up. ...Read more

What test(s) do doctors run to rule out pulmonary embolism in a pregnant woman? 20 gs wks, no leg pain, shortness of breath, cough and chest pain for 4 days after long distance traveling.
Xray -> VQ -> CT: Without leg symptoms, one would not perform a leg ultrasound (DVT US). With SOB, a chest Xray is first choice, and can be performed safely by shielding the baby. If Xray is normal, then a nuclear medicine VQ scan is performed. If the VQ scan is indeterminate, a CT Pulmonary Angiogram is performed, with settings designed to reduce radiation dose to mother and fetus. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

If you losinopril causes the dry cough will all ACE have same effect? Also CCB amlopidine caused leg swelling will the other CCB do same?
Not neccessarily: Sometimes a switch from one ACE-INHIBITOR to another can stp the cough. If not switching to an Angiotensin Receptor Blocker will very likely stop the cough. All CCBlockers can cause leg swelling. Lowering the dose will decrease the swelling. In any given person one CCB may cause less swelling than the other, while still being effective. ...Read more

Neuropathy: When you cough or sneeze, it increases pressure in spinal canal, and in presence of nerve compression in lower back, the pain exacerbates, but another explanation includes compression of lateral femoral cutaneous nerve of thigh at hip level.
