Squatted down holding 25 lbs felt cramp in calf now feels like charlie horse happen about 9 hrs ago only getting worse pain radiating up leg now ?
Most likely muscle: Pull or tear. However, one of the worrisome things about injuring your calf, when the pain keeps getting worse and worse, is that it could be compartment syndrome. If the calf feels very tight, pale, loose pulses in feet, then get to a doctor. Other possibility is that you herniated a disc and caused a radiculopathy or irritation a nerve from your back. Will also need to see a physician for this. ...Read more
See below: A charley horse or cramp usually develops due to a buildup of certain waste products of metabolism, in this case lactic acid. I get a very sharp pain in my lower leg when I stretch. I believe its called "charlie horse" this happens too often. How can I help this?
Charlie Horse: A charlie horse is actually bleeding (a small blood clot) in your muscle due to excessive, forceful stretching in which a muscle gets pulled and tears a small blood vessel. The most common pain you get when you stretch is just from the stretching itself. As you try to move contracted muscle fibers further apart, they hurt for a while. That is the whole point of stretching to loosen them up. ...Read more

Acid buildup: While under anesthesia, the legs are bent and there is a decrease in blood return from the legs. Waste products like Lactic Acid build up. There is a decrease in blood supply and oxygen levels are lower, compounding the problem. After surgery, the legs are straightened, and blood and lymph fluids begin moving. Muscle cramping occurs during this time, when the local pH is low. ...Read more
How do you get rid of a charlie horse in your legs, what causes these I have had them for two nites now. Been trying to walk them out.
I have had charlie horse-like pains in my right knee that radiates down the leg. It always seems to happen when I lie down to go to sleep. Any advice?
Maybe internal knee:
Is your knee otherwise fine? Sometimes inflammation inside the knee can be triggered by changes in position when lying down, and start hurting. Any 'radiating' pain also suggests nerve compression as a source. Try more stretching, but if continues, consult with your PCP. Good luck. ...Read more
Hmm: Do these spontaneously occur or from trauma? If you are having sudden tightness, redness, or pain from your calf or behind the knee, you may want to get checked for a blood clot. If it's from trauma or exercise, hydration and stretching with ice and possible antiinflammatory medication will help. ...Read more

The last month or so I have started getting a leg cramp- charlie horse only in the left leg pretty much just when orgasm i'm a 25yr. Female
Muscle injury: When you orgasm, the muscles tense up. It is likely that this aggravates a small muscle injury which may be due to a tear, fatigue, or overuse of a portion of the muscle. I would recommend a gentle prolonged stretch of the muscle prior to sex in the future, drink plenty of liquids, and replenish any electrolytes with a sport drink. ...Read more
Calf pain about 2 weeks ago i got what i thought was a charlie horse in the calf of my left leg and since then the pain seems to have moved up in back of my knee, do you think I have just sprained my calf. Or is there some thing else going on. Thank you!
Hard to say without seeing it, but one concern I have is phlebitis, an inflamed clot inside a vein, which can cause pain and swelling and the feeling of migration further up the leg. There are two kinds of phlebitis: superficial thrombophlebitis, which is annoying at best, and deep vein thrombosis, which is a medical emergency because the clot has the ability to break off and travel to the lung.
Given there is a possibility of the latter, i would recommend you make an appointment with your primary care physician today. If you're having chest pain or shortness of breath, you must go to the er immediately.
I don't mean to be an alarmist. What you have could just be a silly muscle sprain. But given my lack of ability to see your leg, and given the possibility of you having a dvt, i'd rather not take chances and insist you get checked out now to be safe.

Magnesium!: Leg cramps are usually due to a magnesium deficiency. I would suggest 400 mg of either magnesium aspartate, magnesium citrate, magnesium glycinate, magnesium maleate or magnesium taurate to relieve this problem. Do not waste your time with other forms of magnesium. These are available over the counter. If you take too much magnesium, you will get diarrhea. ...Read more

I had mirena (levonorgestrel) put in yesterday I have a charlie horse shooting down my leg i'm scared it could be something serious like a blood clot could it be?
Doubtful: Mirena (levonorgestrel) insertion really shouldn't cause anything like that. It is more likely that being in the lithotomy position (feet in stirrups, legs up, etc) caused the muscles to spasm. Mirena (levonorgestrel) does have hormones in it, and all forms of hormones have a risk of blood clots....But that would be rare and coincidental. ...Read more
