Doctor insights on:
Leg And Foot Circulation
Any advice on what over-the-counter treatments could help leg swelling, foot numbness due to circulation problems?
Lower left leg, ankle&foot pain&swelling. No circulation issue. Have had blood test, xrays&ultrasound. No clot. No doctor I've seen knows what it could be.
Hard to be certain..: It's asking a lot of us online to come up with an answer. Lots of questions and an exam needed to try. If the pain and swelling is localized to a joint, e.g., your ankle, then you may want to ask if you were tested for different kinds of arthritis, e.g., lyme, rheumatoid, other infection, or gout. Not sure what else to offer. Good luck. ...Read more
My toes turn blue if I sit or let them hang. Leg red & hurts. My dr checked pulse in foot and said It isn't circulation issue. What else cld it be?
Good chance of Clot.: You had better have your circulation checked again and soon. Pulses have nothing to do with it. More than likely, a vein in your leg is blocked to some degree, not allowing the blood drain from the leg. This is known as a blood clot and can be dangerous if not treated immediately. Do not take this lightly. To remove all doubt, you need to either call your doctor or visit the emergency room. ...Read more

When I am on my feet for a long time I get red welts on my legs that feel warm to the touch. My concern is because my father had poor circulation in his legs, my mother had her leg amputated becaus e of poor circulation.
Leg symptoms that increase with standing (swelling, itching, bulging veins, pain, and--possibly--welts as you describe) suggest a problem with blood flow out of the leg. Blood gets back to the heart, against gravity, because of the pumping action of the leg veins. The system requires three things: muscle contractions, one-way valves in the veins, and an open channel for blood to flow through. Of these, the most piece that fails most often is the valves. When they let blood flow the wrong way, down the leg, you get the symptoms listed above.
The best way to sort this out is to have your legs evaluated with ultrasound. An ultrasound study is really the only way to know whether the valves are working normally and whether there's some kind of blockage. ...Read more

Neuropathy can do it: Overall, it sounds like your circulation is good. But it may be involved indirectly. Nerves control the opening and clamping of arteries. Diabetes can cause neuroapthy, as can arthritis of the spine, vitamin b6 deficiency, to name a few. ...Read more
