QUITE UNLIKELY: But if you are concerned, if you are middle aged and have risk factors it wouldn't hurt to get a baseline electrocardiogram and have an exam to get an idea what IS likely.

Peptic ulcer disease: Although 2% of patients on Doxycycline can have upper abdominal pain association with eating likely is related to Gastric ulcer and needs evaluation by a doctor. Keep an eye on your stools to see if not black which can signify gastric bleed. This should prompt an ER visit.

I feel pressure with burning sensation on left side of chest. I have GERD, can this be gerd? Heart burn. I also have cramps on right side chest?

We ALWAYS worry: When we hear" chest pain" we are always worried about heart disease. Yes, your symptoms may be, and probably are, related to your gerd, but I recommend consultation asap.

Gas: This sounds like gas entrapment in the stomach. Drinking warm water and applying heat to the upper abdomen helps break down the gas and moves it down which is better than forcing yourself to belch which makes you swallow more air. Taking simethicone 1/2hour after a. Meal prevents gas build-up. Discuss this with your physician if it happens often.

Can you have acid regurgitate without heart burn with GERD flare up. No signs of a cold, just bringing up white sour phlegm. Diagnosed with GERD 4 years ago, tried Nexium but never helped. Reflux left on its own. Now had anxiety, got pantazol?

Yes you can...: You can definitely have acid reflux or regurgitation without heartburn symptoms. Medications like Nexium (esomeprazole) may or may not work depending on the strength and frequency that you are taking. Certain foods can cause these symptoms (i.e. caffeine, spicy foods, fatty foods, large meals, alcohol) as well as smoking tobacco. The other issue may be a hiatal hernia which you may discuss with your primary doc

Seek urgent care: These are not symptoms to take lightly -- seek urgent care -- not online. It may be ibs, but don't take the risk of "waiting it out".

35 male, 3 EKG's Echo stress and cholestrol fine. Chest pain in left at a single point, heart burn that goes away with tums (calcium carbonate). Heart prob? Out of shape?

Heart not likely: Chest point tenderness is more likely to be musculoskeletal than heart related and the work-up seems to be reassuring in that regard. You do seem to have symptoms that suggest reflux disease. If overweight, losing weight should help in all departments.

31 weeks preg. Anxiety anemic. Having chest pain left arm going numb. Prev. Ekg echo xray normal. Advice. Have bad heart burn?

Call Obstetrician: This should be evaluated in person by your obstetrician. Although some of this may be due to anxiety reaction, the chest pain and left arm numbness is disturbing and deserves a close look. The heartburn is also easily managed, but a check for H. pylori is warranted.

How long does protonix (pantoprazole) and carafate generally take to start giving relief? I have bad stomach pain and heart burn.

Different: Protonix (pantoprazole) takes at least a day (often several days) to take effect. Sucralafate works within a few hours. Protonix (pantoprazole) won't be your best option for relieving symptoms right away AFTER they are noticed. Have you tried ranitidine or cimetidine?

Abd pain after taking Excedrin yesterday. Tums (calcium carbonate) last nite. Better today but intermittent pain and heart burn. Stools ok. Egd last year norm. Causes?

Abdominal pain: It sounds that you have been stressed out (which can cause increase acidity in the stomach leading to abdominal pain and heart burn) and then you had to take a NSAID for something, which can exacerbate the acidity of the stomach and lead to pain. Try to relax as much as you for the rest of the weekend and find distractors from your stress. Tums OK, add Pepcid (famotidine) for a week.

Are heart burn and acid reflux the same thing?

Are heart burn and acid reflux the same thing?

Symptom v. Disease: Heartburn is a symptom; gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd) is a disease which is the most common cause of heartburn. Therefore, while one may have heartburn secondary to gerd, it is presumptive to call it "reflux" unless this has been proven.
