Went in for followup u/s for left thyroid nodule. Came back as nothing on left but new nodule on right. Worried they got the sides mixed up. Possible?

Not likely: Ultrasound exams are performed by trained technicians and supervised by physicians on site, so a mix up is unlikely. It is, however, common for many people to have multinodular goiter, meaning many cysts on both sides of the gland. These are usually benign & require no further evaluation. If concerned, a needle biopsy can be performed. ...Read more

Nodule (Definition)

Any growth or deposit in the body or on its surface may be casually termed a nodule until its character is determined by the familiarity of the physician with it or by the results of a biopsy if it is not so obvious. The term is casual ...Read more

I have stable, dominant 10 mm left thyroid nodule with possible internal microcalcifications. What does it mean ? Do I need thyroid scan ?

Thyroidologist: Usually, in women especially multiple thyroid nodules are all benign. However, that being said, if there's any doubt a needle biopsy is the diagnostic procedure of choice. I feel that an endocrinologist or preferably a thyroidologist is best qualified to evaluate, treat and follow you. Thyroid scans or ultrasounds alone don't usually settle the problem in my experience. ...Read more

Nodule on thyroid . Then did a FNA . The result was 1.7cm "Left thyroid nodule is heterogeneous & mildly hypoechoic. Any reason to worry?

What did FNA show?: The description you give is of the ultrasound, not the fine-needle aspiration. Yes, I'm worried. But you do need to find out what the FNA showed. If there's any reason to think this is cancer, address it without delay. Best wishes. ...Read more

Subcentimeter hypodense nodule on left thyroid lobe with coarse focus of calcification---subcentimeter left thyroid nodule.Non-specific in nature.

Thyroid nodules: Most nodules less than 1 cm are not concerning and can be monitored with periodic ultrasounds. Some features such as calcification may heighten concern. Much more information is necessary in your situation. Is there family history of thyroid cancer, personal history of hyper or hypothyroidism, and radiation exposure? You need to discuss this with an endocrinologist and arrange a treatment plan. ...Read more

I have an enlarged left thyroid nodule with a fast pulse while pregnant. What causes this?

I have an enlarged left thyroid nodule with a fast pulse while pregnant. What causes this?

First, the nodule: Requires work up. It may or may not be causing more thyroid hormone release. If your thyroid levels are elevated (tsh can be low just from early pregnancy, don't go just on that), then an uptake scan to see metabolism in the nodule needs to get done. They may be holding off b/c of early pregnancy. May benefit from metoprolol for tachycardia, may need biopsy to determine cause. Follow w/doc. ...Read more

What does 2 left thyroid love nodules measuring 1.3 by 1.1cm and 0.7 by 0.6cm mean for my thyroid?

Hard to say: You need to find out more about the nodules. A thyroid scan may help to further classify the nodules. Also a biopsy may be needed. A thyroid nodule may be as simple as a cyst or something more concerning. The additional testing will be able to differentiate it for you. ...Read more

My left thyroid remove their is nodule like small Apple its 20% cancer the nodule on feb 2015 the right we need to remove also im csncer free now ?

Probably: If a thyroied cancer is removed proving to be malignant and the lesion does not cross isthmus, when cervical nodes are absent in terms of mets, then the incidence of a lesion developing on the other lobe is about 9%. Many suggest total thyroid which appears to have been done in your case. As suchi ifi there was no cancer you should continue with periodic follow ups but remain NED ...Read more

What is the difference between thyroid nodules (thyroid normal size with several nodules on left an right side) and goiter?

Thyroid: Thyroid nodules are projections from the gland can be 'hot' or 'cold' meaning they may or may not function and produce hormone. These need follow up. Goiter is when the gland is enlarged and this can occur from iodine deficiency and other entities. ...Read more

Big nodules: Hi. Those are big nodules. They should only have FNAB done if you plan to NOT remove them if they're benign. If they're bugging you and you want them out even if they're benign, then you can skip FNAB. ...Read more

Hetrogenous thyriod nodule without evidence of discrete thyroid nodule it right lobe measures 5.7x1.4x1.7 while left lobe 5.4x1.4x1.7?

Hashimoto's disease?: A very common thyroid condition, known as hashimoto or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis -- is when the body's immune system attacks the thyroid gland. This can cause an enlarged inefficient thyroid gland (large size of ultrasound measurements) and scarred heterogeneous appearance (in ultrasound description). Eventually many patients will become hypothyroid. Thyroid antibody levels are usually high. ...Read more

Is it normal for one complex thyroid nodule on the left lobe to turn in to multiple complex cysts on the opposite lobe over the span of one year?

Multiple nodules: This is a common way for a multinodular goiter to begin. Nobody really understands it. The key is good cancer surveillance, and your being aware that if the radiologist can offer reassurance, serious disease is unlikely to develop. ...Read more
