Go in and get formally checked out by your physician or a urologist to ensure no other problems.
If sudden/severe pain, then immediate evaluation is needed to ensure the testicle is not twisted and not getting a good blood supply.

The "bag of strings": Comment suggests what you are feeling, I believe. The epididymis is a coiled tube at the back of the testicle that stores and carries sperm. Depending on location and position, it can be felt. It can become infected, including by sexually transmitted infections, when it is then swollen and tender.
