Do I have carbon monoxide poisoning? I left stove on for 12 hours.

Do I have carbon monoxide poisoning? I left stove on for 12 hours.

Probably not : But you don't give enough information. I would assume you have a gas stove. You give no symptoms. If you have headache, dizziness, and nausea, these are the most common symptoms. If you can improve the ventilation in the home and do not leave the stove on. Please note these symptoms are also common with other things as well. ...Read more

Does smoke from burnt food (no fire) cause health damage? Pan was left on stove. One year old in house

Does smoke from burnt food (no fire) cause health damage? Pan was left on stove. One year old in house

Not ideal: As basically all smoke has some carcinogens(cancer causing chemicals), granted usually in very small/trace quantities. In small amounts/short exposures, this isn't likely to create any problems. So I wouldn't worry too much, unless this is going to be a very frequent event. ...Read more

If I left the stove for 8 hours can I get carbon monoxide poisoning?

If I left the stove for 8 hours can I get carbon monoxide poisoning?

Possibly: Carbon monoxide (co) is formed when burning fuel for example gas, but not electric stoves. If the stove is not burning properly or not vented properly then co can build up. If you are concerned there are home co detectors that you can buy at hardware stores, which will tell you if the level is too high. ...Read more

No worries: The odor is added to propane and methane natural gasses to let people know when unburnt gas is in the air. A little of propane or methane odor is harmless. One just needs to identify the source of the gas odor and decide what to do... such as relight the pilot light, turn off the gas, or light the gas and use it. In general, no worries. ...Read more

My stove was left on so I'm assuming that the gas was leaking out. Not sure for how long if I had co posing would I have known by now?

Headache: The most common symptom of co poisoning is headache. If you don't have one and are not pregnant then you likely have nothing to worry about. If it was just gas on without flame then that is natural gas, not co. If you have any suspicion of co exposure and are pregnant you should get your co level checked at an er because the fetus is more susceptible. ...Read more

Our wood burning stove was left open accidentally all night. Would smoke from it affect a 12-week-old fetus? Cause death or miscarriage?

Should be OK: Hi. As long as the chimney is unobstructed, it should be fine. Nevertheless, be careful, and leave a window cracked somewhere so smoke is drawn up the chimney. Your baby is probably fine. Good luck with the pregnancy and delivery! ...Read more

Burnt a nylon jacket on the stove. Inhaled a lot of the fumes and feel sick. Left the house and left windows open. When will it be safe to go back in?

Burnt a nylon jacket on the stove. Inhaled a lot of the fumes and feel sick. Left the house and left windows open. When will it be safe to go back in?

Burning nylon: Fumes from burning nylon probably didn't do your liver any favors, but overall it will handle it OK, if this is the only insult.
I'm sure your lungs and bronchi weren't too happy either, but likely no lasting damage.
I would stay out until you don't see smoke. You may want to set up a fan to blow out the window if it still stinks. Eat light if nauseated, it should pass. ...Read more

How many exchanges are in stove top stuffing?

Exchanges??: If you are "into" the exchange plan of eating---it would the same as "stuffing" or one half cup = 2 starches and 1 fat. Personally, I don't believe in the "exchange" program. If it worked well, we would have more success with it--which we don't. The good about the "exchange" program is that it can teach patients about portion control. ...Read more

Can a new woodburning iron stove cause me to get sick?

Can a new woodburning iron stove cause me to get sick?

Absolutely!: The main health issue with stoves and heaters than use wood for fuel is that they and the house are properly ventilated. If not, carbon monoxide and other noxious fumes can build up in the home, causing many symptoms and even death. If you are getting sick and relate it to a new stove the two may be connected. Many communities have services to come check stoves and heaters out for safety. ...Read more

Fly eggs on food? I had food leftover on the stove and I noticed white grains on it, I took them off but I observed ate the food. Am i safe?

Probably fine: Remember once you eat something, it's exposed to very harsh conditions in your stomach. It's unlikely that anything concerning that you ate would survive. You should also realize that in other countries insects and their eggs provide a staple of food(yikes!), so it isn't necessarily unsafe to eat ... though it may not be very palatable to people here! ...Read more

Is it bad to overboil coconut milk on the stove if you heated it for 20-25 minutes?

Though more often: Associated with dairy products, curdling can happen to any mixture where solids, such as fat and protein, are suspended in liquid. Coconut milk can curdle at high heat; it can turn into a thin, watery liquid mixed with white lumps. It can be avoided with gentler cooking and stirring. Curdled coconut milk is not dangerous.it can be returned to a less lumpy state by cooling and stirring. ...Read more

Accidentally sat on a stove. How long will it take for the blister to heal?

Accidentally sat on a stove. How long will it take for the blister to heal?

Simple Treatment: With injury to our skin, inflammation occurs which means the area becomes red, warm, tender and with swelling. Swelling occurs under the skin layers and causes them to bulge creating a protective fluid cushion called a blister. As the area heals, the fluid will be resorbed or when no longer needed, the blister opens and it drains. This should take about a week. Keep it covered and protected. ...Read more

Is it bad for health? Will this make me fat?

Only you will know: "I eat a lot of" means different things to different people. Some people think 6 crackers is a lot, while others think 26 is a lot. It is all about total caloric intake (in food and drink). Big crackers would have more calories than small crackers of the same type. I want to know if the heat (heat peanuts on the stove) destroys the goitrogens peanuts and which nuts have goitrogens.

Enjoy your peanuts: Don't believe everything you read online. Cabbage and its close relatives are the foods that actually inhibit thyroid hormone production somewhat, and even then, it's a minor effect. I do not see you listing any actual thyroid disease; peanuts are a staple drop in much of the world and if they were actually making thyroids sick, we'd know. Enjoy your nuts and be glad for good health. ...Read more
