Stiff neck/shoulders, fatigue, muscle twitches, ear/jaw pain and stiffness, headaches/head pressure, very sore muscles waking up. Lyme disease?

Not likely: You may have fibromyalgia. You need to discuss this with your physician and possibly see a rheumatologist. This is unlikely to be Lyme disease but there are other possibilities in the differential diagnosis that need to be confirmed. Your evaluation will include examination, lab studies and maybe imaging. ...Read more

Diagnosed w/ Lyme disease, bartonella, & babesia. Have noticed increasingly stiff & painful neck w/ head pain & pressure for past 3 days w/ fever ranging btwn 99.6 & 100.5. Are these symptoms typical?

YOU ARE NOT 15 MIN!: I agree that you should not assume the neck pain is Lyme spasms, and get to ER. We would like to propose that while Babesia can raise temps, Bartonella can be immunosuppressive-floats in blood--you do not die. A fever with Bartonella I would take seriously. My wise MD friend is right. If 3 infections--missed one? ER. As Fallon, MD Columbia recently posted-ticks are infection bus-over 1-3 bugs. ...Read more

My husband has Lyme disease he had a reoccurrence with nervousness and stiffness on doxycycline 100mg 7 days. Is that enough treatment?

Probably not but...: Acute lyme disease responds well to Doxycycline though lyme specialists advise 200 mg 2x/day for 30 days. If his recurrence is due to a new bite I advise that dose. If it's recurrence of previous infection, as dr. Raff mentions, this is a controversial subject. There is strong evidence lyme can persist (http://bit. Ly/1ffxjxl) but I feel antibiotics are seldom effective for chronic lyme. See comment:. ...Read more

No: The chronic issues you face should be addressed by an internist who can look at all of your signs and symptoms through a wider-angle lens. An enlarged thymus, unless associated with myasthenic or obstructive symptoms, should not be worrisome. ...Read more

Further evaluation: I would suggest a work up to include further evaluation of your asthma which is being treated with Advair. The evaluation will include a pulse oximetry test with and without exercise. These symptoms may be related to uncontrolled asthma. In addition, a TB test and CF screening test can be performed. A complete physical exam and history will determine other causes. ...Read more

5 days sore throat, severe body/joint ache & fever (100-102). Thought it was strep or virus, but today I find a bullseye-like bite on my trunk. Can it be Lyme disease? Is it too early for blood test?

5 days sore throat, severe body/joint ache & fever (100-102). Thought it was strep or virus, but today I find a bullseye-like bite on my trunk. Can it be Lyme disease? Is it too early for blood test?

Epidemiology: When early lyme is suspected, the diagnosis is based on clinical grounds. Taking a picture of the rash & having a doctor examine it before it disappear is advisable. Other things can cause a bulls eye rash such as a fixed drug eruption, southern tick-associated rash illness, etc. Early recognition is very important. Its too early for an antibody blood test. Epidemiology will help your doc answer. ...Read more

Does pheriferal neuropathy caused by Lyme disease go away by itself after healing lyme? My left foot is burning...I can't get no sleep because of it

See a neurologist: This is one situation in which I would urge a 2nd opinion with a neurologist if you have not already seen one. If the neuropathy is related to lyme disease (and imo that is a large "if") the injury to the nerves heals very slowly. A neurologist would rule out other causes and offer you meds which are often very helpful in minimizing the symptoms. ...Read more

3 small nonspecific lesions. Lyme disease negative. Now being tested for nerve damage and memory loss, all that's left is stroke and ms, limbs tingle?

3 small nonspecific lesions. Lyme disease negative. Now being tested for nerve damage and memory loss, all that's left is stroke and ms, limbs tingle?

MS is possible: Assume you have 3 small brain white matter lesions, but your sensory symptoms and memory issues, could well be a sign of ms, or prior strokes. Can sort out by getting MRI of neck and MRI of gray matter using dir techniques, as extra lesion on these films could confirm ms. Maybe spinal fluid would help. Talk with your doctor, should be able to pin down. ...Read more

I have constant aching pain in left calf and sometimes thigh. Worse at night. Doc has ruled out Lyme disease and deep vein thrombosis. What now?

More evaluation: If your symptoms worsen with exertion (claudication), you may need an evaluation for peripheral arterial disease (PAD). While these may be simply muscle cramps, be sure to talk with your doctor about sciatica (pain that originates from lower back via nerves traveling to the leg), tendon rupture, and arterial aneurysm. Your doctor may also want you to see a Rheumatologist. ...Read more

Problems right now. Headaches, then sudden numbness in face., and left side numbness, foot numb, stiff neck, pain, distended artery left side neck, pain witch also hurts at left collar bone area below its near my heart left side. . Had a ultrasound

Many symptoms: Those are a lot of symptoms. Tough to sort out which is the key. Some symptoms are a key to determining the cause, some are not. Take headaches for example. There are many different kinds. Are yours diffuse? Focused? Long lasting? Then numbness. How long does it last? Where is it, exactly?
