10 mos intermittent left shoulder blade pain. Pain also in arm down to fingers. Back pain can sometimes be eased by deep breath. What is this?

Could be impingement: You may have some inflamed muscles in the shoulder blade region and even into the shoulder, which might also be in spasm, causing some of that pain. With inflammation, sometimes nerves can get pinched and impinged, causing you to have referred pain down your arm and fingers. You can try heat and ice, as well as Ibuprofen but may need to see your doc for physical therapy referral and/or imaging. ...Read more

Therapy?: In addition to tending to physical symptoms, have you yet tried any form of psychotherapy? Typically, the optimal combination of things to treat emotional issues such as anxiety or depression is medication (which, on your best day, is supposed to take the edge off symptoms) but the real gruntwork takes place in psychotherapist's consulting room. ...Read more

I have left shoulder blade pain, pain under left breast and pain that goes from the left side of my neck down my left arm.

I have left shoulder blade pain, pain under left breast and pain that goes from the left side of my neck down my left arm.

Pinched nerve: Because patients having cardiac problems can have these symptoms, you should have this ruled out. But the most common cause is an irritation of a nerve in the neck by a bone spur or herniation that can cause pain or numbness that runs down the arm into the hand. An MRI can usually show the cause of the problem if it does not resolve. Thank you for the question. ...Read more

Severe onset of left shoulder blade pain that radiates down left arm & hand. Left arm also tingles. Whole left arm is weak. Neck is fine though.

Radiculopathy: Pain that radiates down the arm can reflect a cervical radiculopathy (shooting pains due to a pinched nerve in the cervical spine). Many patients will have no associated neck pain. These conditions typically resolve with time and conservative treatment. It would be reasonable to watch it for a week or two, and use NSAIDs if needed, before seeing a physician. ...Read more

What causes 10 mos intermittent left shoulder blade pain? Pain also in arm down to fingers. Back pain sometimes eased by deep breath. Fear cardiac.

Not cardiac: There's nothing about your description that suggests heart disease. I would be concerned about cervical disk disease with neural impingement causing that distribution & duration of pain. An MRI would rule it in or out. ...Read more

Severe pain under left shoulder blade & numbness down left arm till fingers. Tingly feeling in elbow. Neck is fine. Weakness in left arm. Supraspinatus?

Need exam: Your symptoms suggest cubital tunnel syndrome (ulnar nerve entrapment @ elbow) but a thorough history and physical exam is required to confirm. Supraspinatus (rotator cuff) injuries can occasionally present as you describe but this would be unusual. Most RC strains or tears cause pain w/ overhead activities, difficulty sleeping on the affected shoulder and/ or weakness... Best of Luck! ...Read more

Left shoulder blade pain & slight pain in arm have had this 2 weeks getting worse hurts 2 take deep breaths starting 2 stay rather than come & go?

Be evaluated: Would want to be checked to make sure it is not a cardiac condition, which can cause a referred pain into the left arm and shoulder. That being said, most common cause is a "pinched nerve" in the neck. An MRI can confirm this and there are many good treatment options available. ...Read more

Shoulder blade cracked;nowleft arm goes tingling once in awhile. Can injured left shoulder cause me to feel more discomfort on elbow than my shoulder?

Tingling in arm: May be due to nerve or vascular compression (more often the former). The injury that resulted in the shoulder blade fracture may have caused another problem. (nerve root, brachial plexus, peripheral nerve) Sometimes traction to the ulnar nerve causes parasthesias down to the hand and discomfort around the elbow. A good neurological-exam possibly an EMG-NCS may need to be done to sort this out. ...Read more

Left Shoulder, elbow, wrist pain/discomfort after carrying heavy bags or walking dog? Hurts starting in shoulder blade. Uncomfortable.

Myofascial: This sounds like you may be experiencing a myofascial trigger point; this irritation of muscle groups can even mimic nerve root type pain. The shoulder girdle area is a common site for these types of regional muscle fiber strains. If your dog takes you for the walk (with lots of tugging) then a few trips to dog training school may help to change unruly tugging. A lighter, fashionista bag? ...Read more

I have a brief burning in my left shoulder blade, worse when walking, that fades after 2 seconds and a brief burning in left elbow to wrist. Heart?

Possible: It would be most unusual for you to have coronary artery plaques at your age, but you could experience some spasm of coronary arteries or have difficulty getting oxygen to the inner lining of the vessels when you're walking or exercising. The prognosis is good if these are the explanation for your symptoms though. Consult a cardiologist for testing, advice and treatment. ...Read more
