I was diagnosed with a left ovarian cyst in december. I have had left ovarian pain since october, now the pain is almost constant and pulling. Is it possible the cyst is still there a fairly large?

Cyst Followup: Depending on how large the cyst was when identified in december, it may warrant follow up with an ultrasound. If >5-8cm then you'd be at risk of a condition called ovarian torsion where your ovary can twist and get stuck because of the weight of a cyst. This can be a surgical emergency if the pain is persistently sharp and severe. May consider hormonal contraception for control of cyst formation. ...Read more

Ovarian?: The location does not give a definite answer as to the actual source of the pain-- i, e, it may not be the ovary. If it has persisted- see md , if it went away and all else is normal, just see if this becomes recurrent. ...Read more

Lots of options: There are multiple medical options. Hormonal treatments such as birth control pills, Progesterone treatments and the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud are effective reversible treatments that will help many people. There is also a drug called Lysteda that contains no hormones which will help others. If you are done having children discuss the option of an endometrial ablation. I'm still in pain from a pelvic exam yesterday. No bleeding or discharge, + pain and nausea. Exam was to help diagnosis a left ovarian cyst. Pain ok?

It is possible for a cyst to rupture from trauma---just an ovary being examined, for example, or even sex. You should contact the person who did the exam. You probably need an ultrasound. Any chance that you're pregnant? If so, very important that you be seen soon. Ectopic pregnancy possible. ...Read more

Need GYN follow up: You need to see a GYN MD in their office for follow up care to be certain that the ovarian cyst is completely gone. An ultrasound exam will help along with the pelvic exam. Those studies will determine the answer to your question of how long, etc. The MD can also provide Rx for the pain if necessary. ...Read more
