Left Hemicolectomy Procedure
Been having really sharp intense pains under my left rib for a few months now. Also had a r hemicolectomy only 2 months ago. What do you think?
Need to work it up: Symptomatic treatment with antiinflamatory medications and additional work up to rule out post surgical collections of fluid, blood or pus, inflammatory changes at intestinal connection or even pneumonia. 2 years after left hemicolectomy, still have pain on left side, at times very sharp extremely constipated. Sometimes need heavy dose of laxitives.
Laxatives R not the-: -answer. U need stool softeners, as well as drinking lots of water. The colon does remove water from the stool, & fiber, stool softeners & lots of water. Many R available OTC & on line. My wife & I use friendly fiber from vita cost.com. Fiber + probiotics. Or talk 2 Ur PCP about this. ...Read more
Pinched nerve: It sounds like you have "sciatica" -- a pinched nerve where it comes out from the spinal cord between the spine bones. Surgery can keep you in an awkward position while you are asleep, and worsen a minor, not noticed problem that existed before surgery.
