Asymmetric hearing: Asymmetric hearing may be due to multiple etiologies: infectious, Meniere's, membrane rupture, autoimmune, medication, tumor. An audiogram followed by an ABR (auditory brainstem response) with asymmetry is reasonable. An MRI may be warranted pending evaluation also. That's a need for MD: Best solution would be to have this examined by a professional (family doctor), and throat cultured and assessed. Upper respiratory tract infections may well be due to virus, bacteria, etc. You might try using a netti-pot or nasal saline spray along with a decongestant and nsaid. Doctor can evaluate: Numbness of an ear usually means the skin sensation of the earlobe and cheek have decreased. An ENT doctor or a neurologist can evaluate to see if something is bothering the sensory nerve to those areas on the head. Hard to say : There are other considerations within the ear like the middle ear or the inner ear. Also the ear is very close to the brain we want to make sure that something there is not causing the symptoms.
