Did you give blood, was blood taken for a test, was the vein used for IV medications, was trauma involved, was you arm pit examined, was thoracic outlet syndrome excluded, etc. Etc. Superficial clot.: Superficial vein clots are generally not worrisome as they're too small to really do anything bad. Try putting a warm soak onto the area in question twice daily for a while - see if this helps the clot to dissolve. ...Read more

Right arm vein hurts by my wrist. Dr. Says it might be gout but even with meds the pain is still there and so is the swelling. What could it be?

Possibly irritated: I don't understand how venipuncture can get to the ulnar nerve but it can certainly puncture some other nerves. I suspect that the pain will be transient lasting no more than a week . You should see a doctor and get it evaluated, as you could develop bacterial phlebitis which can be serious. Unlikely veins...: Hi. It's unlikely that the pain is in your veins (that would be quite atypical). More commonly sharp pains are related to nerves.
