Total Cholesterol (Definition)

Total cholesterol=concentration of all cholesterol/volume blood plasma & carried within the lipoprotein particles; complex protein particles which carry all fat molecules in the water outside cells. The lipoprotein particles have long been classified by ↓ing size/↑ing density: ULDL, VLDL, IDL, LDL, HDL. These protein particles carry triglyceride, phospholipid, cholesterol & ...Read more

My HDL LDL and total cholesterol is really high every time i go have blood work done. I am supposed to be taking meds. Is that safe not to?

Depends: The decision to take medications for high cholesterol depends on the levels of total and each subtype of cholesterol, as well as risks of the patient. If your doctor has recommended to start meds, you should follow your doctor's advice. High cholesterol if untreated can lead to heart and vascular disease. ...Read more

Hdl and Ldl normal total cholesterol normal but triglycerides 258 I'm 23 what can I do to get them down?

Hdl and Ldl normal total cholesterol normal but triglycerides 258 I'm 23 what can I do to get them down?

Find and Fix Causes: The first step is to determine why the triglyceride (TG) is elevated at age 23. Your physician will need to check for several inherited and acquired medical conditions that can affect TG levels. Another alternative is to see a lipidologist (physician specializing in lipid and lipoprotein disorders). You can find a lipidologist at www.Lipidboard.Org (click "verify status", then search your state). ...Read more

What is the significance of these numbers: my triglycerides are 79 HDL 66 LDL 126 total cholesterol is 208?

What is the significance of these numbers: my triglycerides are 79 HDL 66 LDL 126 total cholesterol is 208?

Depends on Particles: Both labs and risk factors are important in knowing cardiovascular (cvd) risk. More than cholesterol, cvd is related to the number of LDL (ldl-p) and HDL particles (hdl-p). Because cholesterol in LDL and HDL particles is highly variable cholesterol levels often disagree with particle number. When cholesterol and particle number disagree cvd risk tracks with ldl-p and hdl-p, not ldl-c or hdl-c. ...Read more

Biometric screening. I'm 31. Triglycerides =290,HDL=53,LDL=112,Total Cholesterol=223, Cholestrol/HDL Ratio=4.2,Glucose=99,BP 111/74. Tri high. Why?

May never find "why": I'm going to assume that this is fasting sample. A lot of this is hereditary. There's not a consensus about what to do with high triglycerides when other lipids seem okay. One idea is to spend a few months exercising like you did as a teenager and then checking. I bet you'll see things change for the better. Best wishes. ...Read more

My glucose fasting is 98, post prandial 162 hb A1c 6.7.Triglyceride 184 HDL 32 LDL 66 total cholesterol 135.I have gallbladder stone of 9mm.Suggest m?

Gallstones: Your diabetes does not seem to be an issue here. The advise of what to do depends on whether you are having symptoms related to gallstones. If you have no symptoms then there is nothing that needs to be done currently. If you have symptoms then gallbladder removal maybe an option. Best to discuss with your primary doctor or see a general surgeon. ...Read more

Hypertension,,: Hypertension is a very important reason for erectile dysfunction. Uncontrolled high blood pressure is very often associated with impotence or erectile dysfunction.
