Ldl 132 Good Or Bad
HDL is Good: Hdl or high density lipoprotein and LDL or low density lipoprotein are particles that are important in cholesterol metabolism. Hdl is the "good" particle that pulls cholesterol out of the arterial wall. Ldl is the "bad" particle particularly when it is "dense" or cholesterol laden that allow cholesterol transportation and deposition into the artery wall accelerating atherosclerosis. ...Read more
Nothing: Remember the numbers you get are just about 1 of 10 things you need to do to have a long life. Lower all your risk factors to 1 and you will be ok. You were born with 1 so that's why I say 1. 2 if you have a powerful family history. Mitigate any other risk factors you have, don't smoke or sit around eating junk. Find a CAD risk assessment tool to see how the factors affect you. ...Read more
My HDL was very high which was good but my LDL (the "bad") was about 18 points too high. Is the LDL significant in the grand sceme of it all?
LDL is atherogenic: Risk of developing heart disease based on multiple factors& excess LDL is only 1 of them. At your age, lifestyle changes to decrease LDL ought to be undertaken as first step. Signif decrease your intake of saturated fats (fats that are solid at room temp =butter), shellfish, egg yolk to name a few. Eat a Mediterranean diet as much as possible. Walk 10000 steps/day. Recheck fasting lipid 6 months ...Read more
What do you suggest if my HDL was very high which was good but my LDL (the bad) was about 18 points too high. I significant in the grand sceme of it all?
Actual numbers: It's hard to render an opinion without the actual numbers and without knowing more about you (your total risk is not determined only by your cholesterol) but, in general, what you've described would not be any cause for alarm or require treatment. ...Read more
What do you suggest if my HDL was very high which was good but my LDL (the "bad") was about 18 points too high. I significant in the grand sceme of it all?
Old school vs new: Previously, we stated that HDL greater than 60mg/dL was protective & allowed us to subtract a risk factor when calculating risk for future heart attack. We then decided your LDL goal based upon risk. Since 11/13, we no longer have LDL "goals". Instead, we have 4 groups who may benefit from statins (only drug proven to prevent heart attacks, not just lower LDL). So focus on lifestyle then recheck ...Read more

My 8 yr old boy got CHOL 186 MG hdl CHOL 73mg TRIG 72mg CALC LDL 98mg TC/HDL 2.5 LDL/HDL 1.3 & NON HDL 113MG is it good or bad?
Confused by lipids - 132 total chol (good), 32 HDL (low), 101 Trig (good), 80 LDL (good), 100 Non-HDL, but Pattern B with bad peak/particle sizes. 69 apolipo B and 28 LP (a) both good. Risk overall?
Hyperlipidemia: Very low risk. These numbers are good. I wouldn't get hung up on that one blood test result. Keep Healthy ...Read more
2 Triglyceride: 133 Cholesterol total: 132 Cholesterol HDL: 37 Cholesterol LDL: 72 Cholesterol total/cholesterol-HDL ratio: 3.6.1 good? Ok? Bad?
Numbers are numbers: Lab results usually are numbers, and numbers are just numbers, with little meaning unless a doctor takes in the whole picture of what's going on. The ordering doctor may or may not consider the results a problem, depending on the patient's illnesses, bodily condition, life habits, and exercise activities. It's better to have HDL at 50 or higher. TG in the 130's is ok, but 120's might be better. ...Read more
LDL and HDL: In general high LDL cholesterol is associated w/ higher risk of heart & artery disease, while high HDL is generally protective. Genetics is a major determinant of what your levels will be; diet has some influence. Treatments include diet, exercise, & drugs including statins, fibrates, binding resins, & recently some fancy biologic drugs. Medical guidelines on who/how to treat are now very detailed ...Read more
My serum homocysteine test result is 18 umol/l and my LDL cholesterol is 4.52 mmol/l. Are these results good or bad?
First cholesterol test in 1982 was 203 and last test just done was 213 with HDL and LDL all in normal ranges. Is this good or bad?
Depends: Cholesterol norms vary depending on the risk factors one has such as the presence of hypertension, diabetes, smoking, family history of heart attack, etc. Knowing that as well as the actual #s for your cholesterol fractions may help better determine whether those are normal in your case or not. ...Read more
First cholesterol test in 1982 was 203. Last test in 2013 was 213 with LDL and HDL all in normal ranges. Is this a good or bad sign?
Very good/keep up,,,: This is very good as you've apparently kept your cholesterol from increasing dramatically. Everything else is in range so if you keep working on that total and do good diet and exercise, you'll be doing everything you can short of meds to keep it under control. Best of luck. ...Read more
Total cholesterol : 236 mg/dl, LDL : 166 mg/dl and triglicarydes : 162 mg/DL. HDL : 37.How good/bad are these counts for a 28 year old boy?
Need work: Your values are not too bad, but could be much better, especially HDL should be higher. If you are overweight, lost weight. Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco or alcohol in any form. ...Read more
Conversion: In the usa, we don't tend to use system internationale units so I converted yours: HDL 39, LDL 100, tg: 70 - milligrams per deciliter. Your HDL is a tad low (high is better); your LDL and tg are normal and in the desirable range. Exercise and olive oil can raise your hdl. If you smoke, quitting will also raise your hdl. Primarily, HDL reflects your genetic inheritance. ...Read more
I know LDL cholesterol is known as the "bad" artery clogging cholesterol, but are there healthy levels that are good for you?
Depends on Particles: Ldl can be estimated by cholesterol (ldl-c) or measured by particle number (apob or NMR ldl-p). However, ldl-c and ldl-p do not equally predict cardiovascular risk. When ldl-c and ldl-p values disagree (due to cholesterol variability per particle) cvd risk tracks with LDL particle number, not ldl-c values. Ideal ldl-p values are <1000 nmol/l for high risk patients and <1300 nmol for everyone else. ...Read more
They did a lipid test on me but don't know how to read results cholesterol 150, trig 155, HDL 31, chol/hdl ratio 4.84, LDL 88, non HDL 119. Good or bad?
Your HDL chol is low- the only way to improve is to exercise daily and to keep ideal body weight.
Keep the LDL level around 70 if you have strong fh of coronary artery disease.
Your triglycerides are borderline high which can be corrected by daily exercise and proper diet. (low in carbohydrate and sweets). ...Read more
Hi. I did a fasting blood test. Cholesterol 198. Triglyceride 37. HDL 45. LDL 146. How good or bad these results are?
Pretty good: LDL's a wee bit higher than we'd like. See what you can do about that. Get back to that fitness-focused lifestyle you loved when you were a teen. I hope you'll make a healthy lifestyle, with fitness and sensible eating, central to what I'll bet will be a happy and healthy life. ...Read more
Female total cholesterol: 214 vldl: 31 = triglycerides:156 hdl: 80 ldl: 103 results; good, bad, indiferent, what to do?
I am so confused. One doctor tells me cholesterol is good. Another doctor tells me cholesterol is bad. Total 241 HDL 104 LDL 128. Who is to trust?
Very good: An HDL is the "good" cholesterol, which is protective against heart disease. An HDL that high is wonderful! The LDL is the "bad" cholesterol. The recommended levels depend on your other medical problems. For a person with no other medical problems, your LDL is good. If your diabetic or have prior heart disease, the ideal LDL is less than 70. ...Read more
Good HDL trigs very high ldl, can't take statins, tried vit b3 100 mg, bad reaction in left temple an burning everywhere. What can I try, diet is healthy?
Niacin: You can use Niacin to lower LDL ; raise HDL but with a docs supervision because it effects the liver and you will need periodic blood tests. I can't understand if you are saying that your triglycerides are high also. If that is the case, good quality marine fish oil can greatly reduce them. Peace and good health. Since your own body makes most of your cholesterol, diet will help to about 20 %. ...Read more
My lipid profile is Total cholestrol=192 trigly=239 hdl=28 ldl=116 vldl=47.8 chol/hdl=6.86 fbs (Blood sugar)93 Is the above values are good or bad?
Total cholesterol 219, HDL 73, LDL 114, vldl 32, triglycerides 161. Thought I was eating good. No fried foods & not a lot of sugar. Is my lipid panel bad?
Need Particle Data: High triglyceride (tg) is often a marker for high LDL particle number (ldl-p). As tg rise ldl-p rises. However, when tg is high the amount of cholesterol carried by LDL particles goes down. This often results in "normal" LDL cholesterol (ldl-c) and low hdl-c levels despite high (ldl-p). When ldl-p is high cardiovascular risk is high independent of ldl-c, hdl-c, tg levels. ...Read more
