Doctor insights on:
Laying Down After Eating
Often: Yes, often laying down after eating can increase the pressure on the stomach and with the help of less gravity, you can have acid come up into the esophagus.
Individual: This varies from person to person. No set rule. If you have troubles with reflux I would wait a good hour.
Is it quite normal for you to feel your heartbeat when you lay down after eating or have gas/indegestion? That's when I seem to feel mine. Normal?
Yes, can be normal: Especially in thin people, the aorta, the largest blood vessel n the body), which comes right out of the heart and travels down your abdomen, can often be palpable and pulsatile. This is not uncommon to feel.
Allows not the cause: Small amounts of oral mucous travel down and into the stomach constantly, entering the stomach at odd times, opening the stomach entrance. If your stomach is processing a meal, it squeezes the contents and creates pressure. If you are upright, gravity helps keep stomach contents from going back to the mouth. If you lay flat after eating, no gravity to help, and a greater chance to reflux.

Heartbeat: You may have a thin chest wall thereby enabling you to see your heartbeat. It is normal so not to worrySee 1 more doctor answer
Doubtful: Don't rely on a single measurement. I suspect you have sampling artifact. Have an impartial 3rd party measure it for you several times and see if it's reproducible. Generally, when we lie down and rest, our heart rate slows. Exceptions would be if you're having pain (e.g from acid reflux or arthritis) or you're ruminating/upset/having a panic attack.
Is it normal to have a higher resting heart rate when laying down then when sitting down sometimes also after eating food?
Possible: Your heart rate changes, so one time measurement is not enough to determine a trend. Also, heart rates under 100 beats per minute should not be worrisome.
Nausea is caused: By biochemical changes in the brainstem that organizes many automatic functions in the body. Commonest cause by far is lousy diet, particularly the empty calories from sugar, desserts, candy, pop (even diet) when you eat, a message goes from the stomach to the brain and the irritable brain reacts abnormally by causing nausea.
I get nauseous when I lay down at night, and wake up hot and nauseous. Today, sharp stabbing pain in my chest and nausea after eating.
Try prilosec: Try a prilosec before bed or 30 minutes before your largest meal of the day. You can buy this at the drug store. It sounds like you are having reflux. If this does not take care of the problem, see your doctor. Also try to get to optimal weight, eat smaller meals, don't eat 3 hours before bedtime, avoid alcohol, tobacco and acidic foods.
Sharp pain near belly button after eating, pain 7 scale 1- 10. Can't lay down. Constipated. What to do?
See your doctor: These symptoms can only be adequately addressed by your doctor in real-time (face-to-face). Only after a thorogh evaluation, possibly including labs and other studies, can he/she determine what's wrong and what to do about it.
What would cause you to have a thick clear to white mucus in your throat if sinuses and chest x-rays are normal. Only happens after eating, laying dwn?
Look at diet: Certain foods in your diet can produce phlegm, which is basically mucus. Sweet foods, chocolates, desserts, breads, pasta, anything with gluten, can do this. So you may need a clinical nutritionist to intervene, and help you. Also, not having enough hydration can potentially cause it. Work with your doctor to address this, and you'll be satisfied.See 1 more doctor answer
Goes up: It goes up usually. Shouldn't go up too much though unless you have diabetes and its not well controlled.
No hard & fast rule: Generally its difficult to exercise right after a heavy meal. A light snack may enable you to work out in about 30mins. Listen to your body. It will let you know when its ready for exercise - whether its light or heavy exercise. Naps - in many european and asian countries its customary to have a siesta in the afternoon after lunch. There is no harm in hitting the sack for a 30min nap after lunch.
