Pain behind eye, threw up alot. I've been constipated for about 2 days. Do I need to take a laxative or enema? Or nothing since I threw up?

See a doctor: The constipation does not seem to be related to the pain behind the eyes and the vomiting. If your pain behind the eye is severe and you are vomiting without having diarrhea or stomach ache, I would worry about pressure in the brain as a worst case scenario. Or it could be that you have a migraine headache that could cause the eye pain and vomiting. You need to see your doctor to sort these out. ...Read more

Gastroenterologist: This serious problem is best handled by a gastroenterologist for diagnosis, treatment and a maintenance dietary and bowel management program providing there is not a structural or mechanical abnormality causing severe constipation and bowel impaction. Perhaps adding a daily medication like senokotS in addition to proper daily water and fiber foods and supplements like psyllium would help. ...Read more

Constipated for a long time now and depended on enema, laxative, etc. Now pregnant with 2nd baby and seriously constipated. Help!

Common problem: Constipation is a common problem in pregnancy. It is safe to use a fiber supplement, probiotics, a stool softener like colace, or a gentle laxative like miralax (polyethylene glycol). My concern is that the constipation was happening in between pregnancies (when things should have been getting back to normal). I'd like to know if your doctor has checked your thyroid function levels. Hypo-thyroid can cause constipation. ...Read more

I would love to clear out my colon just once, to see how I feel. I hear a lot just accumulates & sits. What's best way? Laxative? Softener? No enemas.

I would love to clear out my colon just once, to see how I feel. I hear a lot just accumulates & sits. What's best way? Laxative? Softener? No enemas.

Things don't sit: Stuff doesn't sit around in the colon. If constipated, one needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber+water, Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... A doctor can evaluate and prescribe helpful meds too. ...Read more

What to do if enemas and laxatives don't work for me?

Evaluation needed...: Before you contemplate long term laxative dependency, seek medical evaluation--rule out metabolic causes of constipation (e.g. Low thyroid or adrenal conditions), distinguish slow versus normal transit constipation, consider a primary rectal dysfunction that may be treatable with biofeedback, check for structural pathology or extrinsic impingement, or intermittent ileus (e.g. Pseudo-obstruction). ...Read more
