22/Latino/male/6ft tall/190pnds I'm having hand and arm cramps constantly ,minor weak ness nothing major , can it be sighs of stroke ?

No stroke.: Probably no need to worry about a stroke. The signs are unilateral weakness not bilateral. If the cramping and or weakness persists or worsens please seek physician consult to rule out other medical problems. The number 1 cause of cramping is dehydration so try increasing your fluid intake with water or sports drinks like Gatorade, G2 or something similar. Good luck. ...Read more

No, not likely: You are very young for these symptoms and thus they should be thoroughly evaluated. I can either see you in my redwood city office or refer you to Neurology. ALS is relatively rare and does not affect 22 year old. However, there are several possibilities and a diagnosis will help us to initiate the correct treatment plan. ...Read more

Improve your diet: The cramps may be due to many reasons including dehydration, muscle strain, inactivity, and/or poor diet. The cramps in your hands and feet are less likely to be due to a bood clot or stroke. Improving your diet and overall health may help with your cramps. See your physician for an evaluation if the symptoms persist or worsen. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/musclecramps.html ...Read more

The 20 cases in Nigeria were quickly contained. The Liberian who was diagnosed in Dallas - has had all his contacts monitored closely. Very rare: ALS has gotten a lot of press lately due to the ice bucket challenge. In reality, it is an extremely rare disease. In the US, about 5,000 people (out of 300,000,000) are diagnosed per year. Hand cramps are not part of the symptom progression of ALS. Nothing is impossible, but it is very unlikely you have the disease. Hope this helps! ...Read more

What is a good health ?

I think it entirely possible to have many illnesses and injuries yet remain "healthy." I have seen many patients who refuse to become ill or sick despite severe adversity. Health care providers love to see patients like that! ...Read more
