Lasix Renal Scan
Possible obstruction: I do not know findings of renal scan. Some people develop pain with diuresis from lasix (furosemide) because of sudden distension of collecting system. This may mean there is obstruction to collecting system or ueter and the sudden increased volume not handled well. Sometimes this occurs in obstructed kidneys following beer ingestion, another diuretic. Pain a lot of times when supine at night. ...Read more
Furosemide is a potent diuretic which increases dramatically urine output in most patients. It is most frequently used in patients who are fluid overloaded such as in congestive heart failure. Potassium , sodium and magnesium can be lost in excess with the use of Furosemide and must be closely monitored. It is much stronger than other diuretics used for ...Read more
Functional scan..: Renal scan is usually ordered to evaluate arterial flow to the kidneys as well as cortical concentration and excretion of tracer. Lasix (furosemide) renal scan is used to rule out obstruction. Dmsa renal scan can be used to evaluate for pyelonephritis / scarring. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I'm not sure: Did you mean retinal scan? Or renal scan with Lasix (furosemide) (the water pill)? If this is about eye surgery, then it is possible that you were told to have your retina checked prior to having lasser vision correction. Otherwise, you may have been set up for evaluatio of your kidneys. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Recently found out that kidney enlarged due to hydronephrosis size of 18.8cm x 9.1cm x 10.4cm then renal scan no function is there a way to recover?
Hydronephrosis: A kidney that is completely obstructed may show porr to no function on renal scan. The kidney should be drained with a stent or nephrostomy tube and the renal scan repeated after 4 weeks with the drain in place. If there is still ni function, then removal may be indicated. Discuss this with your urologist as soon as possible. ...Read more
Very reasonable test: The patient is positioned on table with nuclear camera usually positioned underneath. Via a vein the radiotracer usually Technetium 99m MAG3 is injected in a bolus while continuous imaging is being performed of the kidneys and bladder Sometimes lasix (furosemide) a diuretic is injected following the first phase of study to see if kidney might be obstructed. It generally is very easy low radiation test. ...Read more
Nuclear & US scans: Intravenous pyelogram gives much better anatomic detail than either us or nuclear scan, now mostly replaced by ct & ultrasound. Mag3 nuclear scan best to quantitate obstruction & relative function. Dmsa nuclear scan best to demonstrate kidney scars & areas of diminished or absent function. Ultrasound scan uses no radiation, good for screening for hydronephrosis, kidney cysts, tumors & stones. ...Read more
Having sharp pains under left rib, went for renal scan showed nothing but my CRP level is sitting at 43. Doctor doesn't know what it could be?
Need more info: This is not a site in which to attempt to establish a diagnosis, but would suggest that if you have had two abdominal surgeries in less than one year that your doctor should be looking assiduously for an intra-abdominal source of the pain, and a renal scan covers only the kidney. You might want to discuss this with them and if not satisfied consider getting a second opinion. Best wishes. ...Read more
I recently had a renal scan and after urinating an getting back on the table i couldn't see the left one only the right why? I have a stent already
Complicated Answer: Renal scans help determine blood flow, function and excretion from the kidneys. When there is not a kidney seen at the end of the study it could mean it was never seen(bad) or that it has completely emptied (good). With a stent i assume there was blockage. A renal scan is confusing to look at, since the left sided kidney is the left kidney. Your doctor will explain your findings in detail. ...Read more
