Caution required: In dilated cardiomyopathy, the decreased ejection fraction (squeezing function of the heart) may cause "back-up" of pressure which can result in fluid retention and edema (lungs, legs, abdomen, etc). Need florinef (fludrocortisone) for dysautonomia, my potassium is 3.2 on 100meq potassium drinks per day, what is best action as I need the florinef (fludrocortisone)?
Why low K: Florinef (fludrocortisone) will help with low Potassium. I would suggest work up as why you have low potassium and need 100 meq replacement. That is a large dose. Unless losses in stool I suspect the kidney is loosing K. A urine spot potassium should answer this when done along with blood potassium level. Long term indefinite use of Florinef (fludrocortisone) is not recommended. ...Read more
