Smoker I've been coughing up phlegm tinged with blood at times I had a CT scan it states that their is cystic changes and a parenchymal density lung?

Parenchymal density: Is a very nonspecific term, unfortunately. It could mean anything from scar to mass to pneumonia to collapse of a small lung segment. Without the images to review, it is difficult to determine. Likewise, there are both acute and chronic causes of cystic changes. The nonspecific report verbiage needs to be interpreted in conjunction with the images themselves and your clinical picture.

Have a cold, started in nose, than throat now chest. Stuffy nose, productive cough, laryngitis. Is this bronchitis? When do you need to go to the Dr?

Have a cold, started in nose, than throat now chest. Stuffy nose, productive cough, laryngitis. Is this bronchitis? When do you need to go to the Dr?

Viral syndrome: It sounds like you initially had an upper respiratory viral illness which then became a lower respiratory viral illness. If the duration of symptoms is beyond 10 days and you're getting worse, then it is likely that it has become a bacterial infection which likely needs antibiotics. If it had been less than 10 days, then you would continue doing conservative measures at home and see if it clears.

No...you: Showed up with "laryngo" and now manifest the "tracheobronchitis" associated with viruses. Fluids, Aspirin or tylenol, (acetaminophen) expectorants. Ifyou develop blood in sputum, temperature greated than 37 c/101f, report to your doc or the er for a cxr.

Had a cold over a week ago symptoms subsided still some conjestion in chest coughing up phlegm clear, , cough 4 perhour when to worry about a cough.

Generally normal: It may take a few weeks for the cilia (lung hair cells) and edema (swelling) to subside. Over the counter cough suppressants may help. Increase water intake. If cough persists more than a few weeks or mucus becomes discolored it's time to see your physician.

I have phlegm in my throat/chest. I have been coughing up phlegm for about 3 weeks now no other problems also when I laugh I cough up phelgm?

Multiple causes: This can be due to a post nasal drip pooling the secretions in the throat that you cough out. Since yo don't mention feeling ill or having fevers. Its likely secondary to the season change and allergy

I diagnosed and treated me for whooping cough. Is it normal for me to be coughing up phlegm and blood and having a runny nose with mucus and blood?

I diagnosed and treated me for whooping cough. Is it normal for me to be coughing up phlegm and blood and having a runny nose with mucus and blood?

Yes: Whooping cough, or pertussis can cause excessive, protracted coughing. Small membranes in the throat may burst with hard coughing and blood may come up with phlegm. You may benefit from meds to supress the cough, especially to help you sleep.

Viral illness: It is still viral season out there and your symptoms sound like you have a virus. If the symptoms persist beyond a week or you start to have shortness of breath you should seek medical car.

My gp says I have laryngitis caused by a viral infection but since seeing him I seem to be coughing up more phlegm some with tinges of blood?

My gp says I have laryngitis caused by a viral infection but since seeing him I seem to be coughing up more phlegm some with tinges of blood?

Inflammation: You likely have post viral laryngo-tracheobronchitis causing cough with phlegm usually clear but may be blood tinged. A chest x-ray mae be required if the symptoms persist. The usual therapy id steroids and narcotic cough suppression. If not improving a bronchoscopy may be needed. Also if smoking one should stop.

I'm coughing up phlegm every night!?

I'm coughing up phlegm every night!?

Depends: The body always has a reason for what it does. Consistent coughing phlegm is abnormal. Not everyone who is sick feels sick or has fever. There are many potential reasons for the cough, not all of which will make you 'feel sick' it would be wise and appropriate to seek medical evaluation.

I'm a non smoker coughing up phlegm every day, why?

I'm a non smoker coughing up phlegm every day, why?

Post nasal drainage: Most common cause is chronic postnasal drainage from allergies or sinusitis. Also, chronic reflux disease could result in increased mucus production/sensation in throat.

Why would a person start coughing up phlegm that is salty?

Why would a person start coughing up phlegm that is salty?

Nasal Source Likely: Increased nasal drainage due to irritants, or allergens. The drainage causes post-nasal drip/drainage, irritates the throat and causes cough. On a normal day we produce approx 1 liter of mucous, which we politely swallow without saying YUCK! When there is a cold virus, or and irritant, or allergen, this number multiplies, and either our noses run and drip, get stuffy, or post nasal draining.

Nonsmoker coughing up phlegm every morning for over a year?

Nonsmoker coughing up phlegm every morning for over a year?

Chronic cough: Chronic cough is not normal. The 4 major causes of chronic cough are asthma, chronic sinus problems, post nasal drip from allergies and stomach acid reflux. There are many more less common triggers. A lung specialist (allergist or pulmonologist) can assist in identifying cause (chest x-ray, breathing tests) so that a reasonable treatment approach can be taken. Don't live with it!

I wake up at night coughing up phlegm. Is there anything wrong?

Possibilities: Acid reflux and post nasal drainage can both cause nighttime coughing spells. Raising the head of the bed may help some.
