Consult sleep clinic: Good sleep helps you feel healthy and vital. Sleep apnea (frequent awakenings due to low oxygen levels during sleep) can increase your risk of high blood pressure, heart rhythm problems, and even obesity! so consult a sleep doctor. If necessary, they will recommend a polysomnographic exam where they monitor your vital signs, movements, oxygen levels, and video your sleep in an overnight sleep lab. ...Read more

Home sleep study said moderate sleep apnea w/severe oxygen saturation <70 & in-clinic study said no sleep apnea & perfect oxygen levels. Which right?

My reaction: Advise you to sit down with your doctor and go over both studies in full detail, as one of these is clearly WRONG. Although I would favor a clinic outcome due to presence of skilled personnel, I cannot clarify the outcomes from this perspective. Good luck with this. ...Read more

Completed sleep study and have mild sleep apnea. Oxygen recorded during sleep 86%. Will a CPAP machine help ease my high rate of PVCs (20,000) a day.

CPAP and PVCs: Hi Derrick, there is data that demonstrates that CPAP usage does decrease the number of PVCs, but this was only in patients diagnosed with heart failure. Keep in mind that regular CPAP usage should improve any current symptoms related to sleep apnea such as day time fatigue and will also prevent long term complications such as pulmonary hypertension. Hope this helps! ...Read more

But you have to give up all forms of sugar if you want to try this approach. Go to my blog "oxygen the spark of life" that you an google and see the post "sweet and dangerous". ...Read more

In hosp for asthma on monitr brief ventricular tachycardia, overnight on monitor intermittent periods cardiac ectopy staying another night, concerning?

Always but....: Part of your problem may be from over-stimulation from the beta agonist (brochodilator) use , plus possibly oxygen lack and adverse effects from large dose of steroid given. But any arrhythmia especially ventricular tachycarida is of concern and you need a cardiologic evaluation after your asthma gets under control. ...Read more

Is bedtime at 9:30-10pm and wake time at 6am considered an advanced circadian rhytim? Nice opinion, please.

Sounds normal: No, that is pretty normal. We are built to become sleepy when it is dark, and awake when the sun is out. A bed time between 10-11 and wake time 6-7 is very common, and probably in the middle of average for the human rhythm. It is often manipulated though, with people staying up later intentionally. In cloudy and dark climates, one may feel more sleepy, especially during winter ...Read more

Are mobile apps of sleep monitoring reliable?

Likely not: Depends on what kind of monitoring you need. If you need monitoring of the sleep cycles, then I don't think there's an app that can do that. Discuss with your doctor about a formal sleep study if you trouble sleeping. ...Read more
