Good question.: There is no definitive answer to this question since cortisone does reduce one's immune response to the infection. On the other hand, if you need to scratch the wound because of the itching, it will also cause problems as well. I think you should check with your doctor to discuss this issue. You may be having an allergic reaction to the meds or even the adhesive from the bandages or the anti-bacterial soap used to prep you for surgery.
